Recommend me a car for 10k

Hi everyone, traded my C63 in for a 997 GT3 on Saturday and now I need an every day car for under 10k.

It needs to have a decent amount of space so will probably need to be a hatch back.

Economy not a problem. Needs to be reliable and can't be RWD as I live out in the sticks and need something which will work if we have snow.

Been considering Mk 5 golf GTI's, Audi A4 estates so far. Anyone got any more interesting suggestions?

p.s. it needs to be reliable!

£300's worth of remap and a service later, plus the precautionary replacement of a few parts known to cause issues (diverter valve, crankcase vent valve, boost pipe seals and fuel pump cam follower) and the Golf's a genuinely enjoyable little car to drive. The Mk5 handles pretty well anyway and the remap's made quite a difference to the otherwise so-so performance. It now has enough torque to break traction in 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the wet. Hilarious, if a little unruly!

Otherwise the car's roomy enough to carry 5 people or plenty of boxes / bits of other cars - the rebuilt front bumper for my 635CSi went in fine - whilst being relatively cheap to run. Tyres aren't that expensive (I've left the car on 17s) and 30mpg in mixed driving is perfectly possible (the remap improved fuel economy noticeably as well as performance).

Overall a very good all-rounder for sensible money.

Local VW dealership had an 08 plate Golf GTi with leather and 43k miles in which I drove this morning and loved it.

Thanks, I'm actually really excited about picking it up. Haven't had a hot hatch since I was a teenager and there's something fun about being able to throw it about whilst not doing crazy speeds.

Yep, that's the one.

Got it for £9750 which I don't think is too bad. There are cheaper but this is local to me so very convenient. Seems in good nick too.
