What is it that motivates people to order/buy a white car?

Is it to appear 'fashionable'? As in 'cool'? 'On-trend'?
Is it to be a bit...different?
Less washing?
Higher resale value?

Surely all the above are myths?

Interesting replies and I ask because there just seem so many about.

I was staying at a hotel on Sunday night and there was a meeting of 'suits' Monday morning.
All the cars there were white, mainly Audi, BMW and Mercedes.

I guess I'm also interested in why white, or any other colour, is so popular. White is not a new invention.
How does 'it' become fashionable? Why does white appeal to so many people?
