Full respray for £399 - Too good to be true?
Discussion
Advert on our local radio recently for a full car respray for £399, regardless of the size of the car. This seems really cheap compared to other companies, but I can't help wondering why it is so cheap, if it's at the expense of quality etc, or if it is low to attract new customers.
Any thoughts or anyone used rather before?

If you prepare the car yourself, remove window seals etc then there is no technical reason why you can't get an excellent result for that. £400 will easily cover the cost of materials and the time of a skilled painter albeit one who is willing to work for what we in the UK would consider a very modest sum.
In other parts of the world where labour is cheap that is a pretty standard price for a respray. Same finish. Same paint. Same preparation.

I'll do it for £397.
If it is less than £2K minimum - it will be arse gravy.
Many good resprays are in excess of £4-5K plus.
So yeah - it will be crap.
I say - go for it - and post photos. We need a laugh at someone's expense- so why not yours?
A fool and their money....
(Seriously fella- don't do it )

Looks like they're using Plastidip. So it's not a proper respray in that any rust or whatever will still be there, and they're just spraying over it.
Problem with plastidip is that you can tell it's not proper paint and is only any good really if you want a flat or matt colour. Even their shiny ones you can tell there's something "not right" about it.
But if the car is scabby and you're happy with a matt paint job, you can't go too wrong - and you can peel it off if you hate it!

Are you lot sure? There are new cars, brand spanking new cars, fabricated from scratch in far flung places and shipped direct to your local dealership, inclusive of tax and other charges, for sale in the UK today for, what, seven grand.
There are people here claiming that 70% the cost of a new car is paint, which, when R&D runs into the tens or hundreds of millions, is patently not true.
What's the craic?

From what Ive seen of these coatings you dont need to mask off surrounding panels, just peel excess off once dried. Masking a respray takes quite a while, if its just a quick run around with a blade then it saves a lot of time. Still crazy cheap - if I vinyl a race car the vinyl will cost that, not including the labour to fit it!
