Just watched the online announcement of the new Bond film ("Spectre" apparently) and out of the blue the director whips the covers off what is potentially a new Aston model, allegedly a collaboration between the producers and AM, which he referred to as the DB10. Is this the DB9's replacement?

Seems to have a familiar One-77-esque side profile, a very F-Type rear and a new style front:

I can see what you mean. I imagine it'll be pretty claustrophobic inside, and you'll have no chance of resting your elbow on the window sill.

That picture of the F-Type rear 3/4 is pretty startling. They are VERY similar.
Agree. The detail on the front wing, the crease towards the door and even the door handle itself has a definite resemblance, let alone the rear end...

Nothing about this on the AM website. This smacks of a cock-up.
Agree that it's odd that AM don't have any info on their site, but there was a camera operator positioned next to the car ready to take the shots that I screengrabbed, which suggests it was deliberate. Unless Sam Mendes wasn't meant to take the cover off of course.

Which may indicate it isn't a new model and only exists for the Bond film.
In which case it's odd that Aston would allow it to use the DB10 name, unless the next released car will be the DB11, skipping a number as they did with DB7-DB9?

Feasible, but an odd decision. If they don't want people to get ready to buy this they should have called it Vestibule or Veronica.

DB10 definitely sends people down the 'new production model' route.
As someone said above, this announcement without clarification from AM could harm sales of the DB9. If I was in a position to purchase I'd certainly be holding on to my cash until rumours of an upcoming successor were confirmed or denied.

I'd wager that Aston's PR team are rather busy with press inquiries right now...

On this occasion, it will be a model developed specifically for the film and built in-house by the brand’s design and engineering teams.
Well that answers the question. How odd to call it a DB10 and start such speculation!

I guess AM can now gauge the reaction to the design and decide what to carry forward.
