I recently found the "classic" car section of Ebay - what an interesting selection of yesterday's cars! http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=e...

Why don't we post old cars we find interesting for whatever reason (the reason can be nostalgia, not seen one of those for a while, mum had one when I was a kid, or even that they are a good car). Stick to a budget of £5k to make them affordable.

I love this Golf GLS:

I also thought we need a thread like this. Perhaps similar to the fleet for £100k, but what small nostalgic selection could you buy for your £5k total budget.
I have felt for a while that we need a thread for all those random interesting possible purchases - not quite classic perhaps, but old & retro and interesting for whatever reason. The £5k limit keeps it to what the average person can buy.

BMW e28 528 manual - the exact car I was taken to school in for a year, and made me interested in cars! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1986-BMW-528-I-SE-5-spee...

Very cool and white is apparently in fashion. The exhaust seems to stick out even more than I remember it to though!

That's been reduced (I think).

Needless to say I love W124s - I did 1k miles in mine last weekend.

A Bertone-styled Mazda SVA...apparently the only one in the UK!

What a good looking car - it looks like an alfa.

Imaginary conversation: "what do you drive?" - "a mazda" - this car couldn't be further away from most peoples' views of a mazda!

Awesome thread idea Oa, let's keep it in gg.

I've invested dar too much of my working life browsing the eBay classifieds over the years.
I actually started by posting it in the classic thread, but then changed the title and description, so requested that it was moved to GG (and the mods kindly did the deed).

This should be a thread between modern and classic - and a thread for interesting cars you might be able to buy (they are under £5k after all!) but might or might not buy.

The kind of place I'd post a mint Audi 90 for £1,200. Unloved to date on PH. Such a discussion should have a home!

And my choice has already been said with an e28 but this one is my dads current car on some genuine period 16" alpina wheels and bilstien front and rear suspension.

Lovely, what engine does it have?

Perhaps the best Audi ever made - 73k miles, and only £650! I was taken to school in an early one of these and still remember the clunk of the door. http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C494117

Great smile

Just keep posting the retro cars so we can have a look.

A neighbour had one of these when I was young. Completely wrong of course, but what a practical body shape for a small car, and it's £700 and has done 88k miles: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/vw-polo-mk2-breadvan-VER...

I don't know how to link, but it's on Autotrader at the moment. I would love this having had two of the 4.2 series 3's.

That's incredibly cool. Does rust and fixing paint cost a fortune on these?

I suspect when the seller says ring for the detail that means expensive to sort.

I shouldn't like this, but I do http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Granada-Scorpio-2-9...

An unusual looking car for £1k, might be fun and apparently road legal! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1989-PEUGEOT-205-XR-1360...

Oh yes, mirrors on the wings and plenty of work done: http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C569762

I love the interior pics on this as they bring back memories - many happy a day were spent travelling around the country in one of these as a kid. 2.9 and 4x4 maybe mean it's practical and not too slow? http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C533197

Ah, dear. There are things I was very fond of once upon a time. I know people who had them and I wanted one very much in the mid 80s. But they do show their age in performance terms now. 0-60 in the mid to high eights, 0-100 in about 26 secs, and not much more than 20 mpg. 318d performance with two and a half times the thirst.

Thirst apart, however, they remain exceedingly practical.
Not bad for a 1.6 laugh

It's a similar story with my Merc 300E (that I use every day and drove over 300 miles yesterday) - 25 MPG and 2 litre diesel performance. I'll pay the extra petrol for a straight 6 and interesting car though thanks!
