My own car is imo too good for me to waste driving up and down the M1 on a weekly basis for the trip to work and back, and for the short 5 mile each way journey when I going to the office from my digs, but it isn't good enough to just be a weekend car. Sheffield's roads are utter st and are taking its toll on the suspension, so I will be using a DD for this and saving my car for trips out, weekends (when I aren't working them) and generally A road hoonary.

What other cars out there do you, the PHer's, think fall into this category?

Wouldnt it be nice if you told us what the car you are talking about is?
Its in "My Garage" under my profile. I stupidly assumed that people might check that and I didn't want to bleat on about owning an E39 M5 (the one with the V8 for the people who don't know what an E39 BMW is smile).

Bleat?

The whole point off this thread is too find out about which cars, this isn't a guessing game you mug.
Indeed.

Unless it's a very impractical car for anything than to cruise around in on a hot summer's day, I really do not understand people who say "my car is too good to be used daily". Surely you should take very opportunity to use it until you get bored and fancy a change. Life is too short to see metal rust away in a garage or driveway when there are SO many great vehicles to own and experience.
My car is no good for taking stuff down the tip as the rear seats don't fold biggrin But I digress. Would you feel the same if every time you come back to your car you find that it has been damaged? I'm also not sure short journeys where the engine doesn't warm up properly is that good for it either.

I'd have thought an M5 would be in its element pounding up and down motorways?
Yes it does it very well, but the Sheffield roads and the amount of damage it is amassing (I need to replace all 4 doors and wing due to people kicking it (yes, its been kicked) and opening their own doors onto it and denting them) leads me to think it should be semi retired.

I'm in the exact same boat, cars too good to use daily but not purposeful enough for pure weekend duties.

And the suspension is taking a royal beating. That's Sheffield for you.
It's like driving through the 3rd world. I'm glad I only work there rather than live there like I used to!

Agree on Sheffield roads, I've got some soft alloys on mine that'll be 50p's soon. I'd just run the M5 as is, then either take the hit when you move it on, or restore to former glory.

Must be a rough part of town to have it kicked in!
Just parked up in the city centre.
