RE: New McLaren 650S for Geneva
Friday 23rd January 2015
If there's one thing the McLaren 650S doesn't really need, it's more performance. This is a car that will hit 125mph from rest in 8.6 seconds after all. But McLaren feels the need to make a really fast car more rapid still and we are certainly not ones to grumble. Speed matters and all that.
New McLaren 650S for Geneva
'More powerful and more track focused' 650S to be shown alongside the P1 GTR
Clearly pitched as a riposte to the 458 Speciale, this 650S (650SS? 650SR? 650SRI?) will be more powerful and more track focused than standard. Remember a reworked version of the 650S's 3.8-litre V8 produces 737hp in the P1 so it's clearly capable of producing more power. Whatever the exact figure, it will be comfortably beyond the Ferrari's 605hp. "More track focused" implies a reduced weight too; for reference the Ferrari shed 90kg over the standard 458. There's that rather exciting V12 Vantage GT3 on the way as well. Now there would be a triple test to savour...
As appears the McLaren way at present, we will all have to wait (and wait) for further information on this new car. If you can decipher the meaning behind this car's livery then it would be much appreciated. From here it looks like a wallpaper of longtail F1s...
A busy couple of months for McLaren then. This 650S will share the Geneva limelight with the P1 GTR, shortly before the Sports Series is shown at New York. All without weird camouflage too. More as we have it!
