Help pick a car for the mrs!

My other half is finally taking her lessons. She is taking an auto only test to make passing easier (less stress etc)

Anyways, looking for some good suggestions.

Requirements:

Cheap to buy (sub 5k but cheaper the better)
Cheap to insure
Auto only
Reliability a plus!

So far, we are thinking of minis, aygos, polos. Anything we are missing here that would be more interesting?

She is not keen on a jazz!

She likes polos but for some reason insurance quotes are working out quite high on these...

Might be worthwhile looking at pcp on a vw up - but I've read the auto box on those is awful!

Some great ideas, hadn't thought of the fabia/Ibiza...

The A1 she would love but would be over budget and I don't think there is an auto?

Now the renault zoe is an interesting idea I'd personally love to have a go in one, will show her it now...
