After lots of research and deliberation I have finally settled on a Z4. Initially I set my heart on the first of the new shape (E89), but then decided that a 2007/08 Sport 2.0 would adequately fit my needs (preferably in black). The sports seats suit my bad back and I am a relatively sedate driver so the 2.0 is perfect, and should be a cheap car to run with home maintenance. So having decided, I have been following the classifieds and local auctions.

I was ill a couple of weeks ago so had plenty of time to browse the internet when a 57 plate 2.0, 2 owners, 32k FSH Z4 in black came up at auction for sale the next day. I struggled out of bed and headed off to the auction - car was perfect in every way, in my head I set a max price of £7k so together with the £500 indemnity fee would still be cheaper than a private sale (not by much though). I worked in the trade many years ago so am comfortable at auction - the bidding started at £5k and I dropped out at £7k and it sold to a dealer for £7100. As soon as the hammer fell I knew I had made a mistake - the car was perfect and I had lost if for a few hundred pounds. I am now faced with a continued search for the right car which may or may not involve a trip down the country. Two weeks on and I still kick myself. To compound matters I saw the car on AT for £9k

So, any cars you regretted not buying?

In those (auction) situations it helps to remind yourself that you may not've got it for £7200, or even £7500. Who's to say what price you'd have been bid against up to! Still annoying, but makes it slightly less annoying to play over in your mind!
That's exactly the logic I have been using to make myself feel better; £7500 plus the ludicrous indemnity fee would be £8000 which is roughly what they are selling for privately.
