Best 964 RS Colour?
Discussion
Hello there
I just sold my 996 Turbo in order to "go aircooled" and in the next few days am off to pick up a nice little 964 C2 tin top.
I'm rather excited, of the 55 odd cars I've owned including various 911s, this is one of "those cars" I've always always wanted.
Anyway, following in a long line of good examples I'm going to continue where the last owner left off and rather fancy doing a few nice tweaks to make it more "RS touring" than bog c2 standard. There is a lot to say about whether a car should stay original, but this one has already had some changes (KW suspension, a few other bits) and going backwards is not my thing so I plan to move things forward on a budget.
She is looking a bit tired paint-wise, and I am no fan of guards red (yawn) so I plan on either full respray or possibly a vinyl wrap to see what I like. I'm also looking at new wheels over the 17" cups.
I can google for the whole day and I just go round in circles.
So........
What do you think is the best 964 RS colour? Or to broaden it out, what is the best Porsche colour for a 964 in general? I've always liked Riviera Blue, but Viper Green looks nice too. Wheel combos are also not 'off topic' either!
If you have one please let me know why you think your colour is best! (Pics welcome of course!)
Cheers

i thought that was ruby stone
anyway the correct colour is ruby stone
i thought 964 RS's where in the 200-300k price range now at auction?
Yes 964 RS and RSR are fetching daft money. I don't have that sort of wedge hence why I will be hoping to make the c2 look "RS spec" without the vast price tag. A bit lighter, more purposeful suss and some tweaks here and there, maybe a half cage....anyway the correct colour is ruby stone

looking forward to seeing the results
Thanks Dave, me too. I thought I might be rounded on for daring to suggest "another" RS replica, but the maths makes sense. They are climbing, their performance can be improved and with not an awful lot of imagination they can become very fun cars (so I'm told). The above are Mint green, Riviera Blue and Maritime Blue...

Yep looked at this a few times. Minimum is £40k and still needs a fair bit to get it to proper RS spec. Guards red is very common and very dull imo

Amaranth purple for me.
It's funny looking back. When I bought my Tuscan 12 years ago, my short list was either the TVR, 964 RS or 964 Turbo 2, all of which were around 25k. That was in the days when mags like 911 & PW had the 964 RS on the lists of worst Porsches made due to it being too hard and uncompromising. I wonder if they'd be happy to stand by that opinion now.
Yep its getting a bit silly. Back in those days (or a few years afterwards) my 996 Turbo was new at £88,000. And ironically could have been purchased for as little as maybe £20k back in 2010? I do wonder if the aircooled bubble will ever "pop"?! It's funny looking back. I do like cobalt, I had a midnight blue 996 c 2 for a while a summer ago and it actually worked ok with the grey interior. Cobalt has a bit more "zing" I'll grant you, but I really think the 964 lines are suited to something a bit bolder.
As an aside, for many years I have really desired a riviera blue porsche but having looked at the 993 v 964 I think its fair to say that the 993 in my opinion somehow suits it more, especially the "s" wider body red lipstick line editions. So with the 964 it seems I have three choices...
1. Stick with and respray guards red (I've done gr on my 924 and 968 before and I'm not a huge fan)
2. Go different but not mental (cobalt, midnight, possibly the ruby stone)
3. Go bonkers and make it stand out.
Ps - my 996 turbo was seal grey on black and although "less exciting" the 996 looks superb in slate or seal grey, so much better than silver. It's funny how certain shapes and colours seem to fit together

Hmmm, I had a chance to buy a white 964RS imported from...Singapore I think....back in about 2000. It would have cost £20k which was pushing it for me so I went with the 964C4 for about £13k instead.
Oh how I laugh when I now look at the values of RS'
By the way... "Wow" I wonder what that £20k would be now if your had tucked it away for 15 years, compared to the RS now. I'm not sure what they are selling at but I am informed by a chap who knows a euro dealer that very good ones are getting snapped up for close to or on the asking price. Sometimes even a bidding war. A lot of them seem to be heading back to Asia and Austrailia, which is why your Singapore reference reminded me...Oh how I laugh when I now look at the values of RS'

How about mint green with white THs? Now that would be minty fresh!!
I spoke to compomotivr on Friday, nothing doing on the THs, in fact nothing on the comps at all, they presently have "no wheels for 5 x 130 pcd" at all which is a bit of a shame. Having said that I like the cup 1 s (not cup 2s bit too 'soft and rounded') and no car in the world looks worse with bbs LMs on them!

Just HAS to be Maritime Blue. This pic doesn't even do it justice. Such an incredible Pastel Pastiche, it really shows off the cars contours perfectly....
If we were being really picky there are several suspect uses and exclusions of the infamous apostrophe, but since this is a forum about cars and not about vocabulary, please both pipe down. To make up for going off on one please each post up a picture of a 964 in your favourite colour immediately. He he

Most decent wrapping places use the 3M system which apparently has perfect colours.
DOn't know where you're based, but the company that detailed my car - 'Midlands Car Care' do very good full vehicle wrapping, might be worth giving them a shout of you're near the Midlands, if not I'm sure there's plenty of places that use the same system.
Edit to add: This may be use, there's a colour selector, and 'wrapper' finder: http://solutions.3m.co.uk/wps/portal/3M/en_GB/3M-/...
