NSFW, bit sweary, seems a typical attitude/outcome for someone confronted for using a disabled bay.

Whilst the guy in the RR comes across as a total cock, you do have to wonder why someone would spend 2 minutes filming someone in a disabled bay if it wasn't to provoke a reaction.
Perhaps the disabled guy has got sick of people abusing the spaces put there to make life a little easier for people with disabilities.

Most people avoid confrontation like that, but fair play to him for having a go, the RR driver should be ashamed of himself, sometimes a reaction needs provoking so maybe, just maybe, next time they dont do the same thing.

If the driver had a disabled child or pregnant wife and explained that to the guy filming then I guess we would not have seen the video, I had a woman berate me for parking my Fiat Coupe Turbo in a disabled bay at work, I said to her "Just bear with me" and helped my mate with Cerebral Palsy out of the car, into his chair and into the office, I then moved the car to a normal space and spoke to her, she was mortified but I just said that she was right to challenge me. We do need to get the full picture, I think RR man was just parking there with no reason in this case, but it is easy to look a pillock in these situations even with the best intentions.

I have a Range Rover. I also parked in a disabled space earlier this afternoon.

It was a busy small local carpark. There were two empty disabled spaces. I parked in one whilst my OH went into the shop to get a couple of bits.

I sat in the car with the engine running quite happy to move at a moments notice if it so happened that 2 disabled drivers arrived in the 5 minutes my OH was in the shop.

I'm also quite happy to use disabled toilets. Send me straight to hell. biggrin

There was only 1 prick in that video, only 1 passive-aggressive, abusive, dhead out to create some grief and confrontation. And he wasn't sat in the car.
They aren't there for you regardless of whether you are prepared to move, whilst you are sat in readiness people are going past thinking what a you are.

I don't care too much what other people think of me, particularly not random strangers.
Good job...

Another vote for you being a tosser from me as well I'm afraid. You shouldn't have used the space, hopefully the feedback in this thread will make you think twice in the future.
No I don't think so, but thanks for your valued opinion.
And that's the unfortunate thing about it - you think it's okay...because you were in the car! My primary 5 class have recently finished a topic on disabilities and at the tender age of 10 and 11, a significant number would now speak passionately to you about exactly why you shouldn't be in such a bay at all. The mind boggles.
The mind boggles at your being in a position to foist your standards and values upon impressionable children... no wonder teachers are no longer held in the high esteem of yesteryear.
I know, the nerve, Teaching kids about disabilities without telling them about parking Range Rovers nearest the door, the sheer nerve of these so called educators, and we pay their wages !

I think the guy videoing did go in all guns blazing, which is never going to work with an Alpha male in a Range Rover, go in with aggression and you will get it back regardless of the rights and wrongs of the situation, to be honest I think RR guy would have got all arsey regardless but the initial contact should always be polite in any situation, I think people work themselves over seeing things before and build it up and then let the person they do confront have it all in one go.

The whole filming the kids thing is basically RR man trying to divert attention and make the cameraman look bad, the kids were not the subject of his video, the driver was but RR man wanted to get back at him so he escalated it, RR man isnt remotely bothered about his kids in the car he just wanted to make the guy with the phone look/feel bad, he could have just gone somewhere else and avoided the whole thing, pathetic really.

I think the point was not that all disabled people should drive a gold Citroen Picasso and not something nice, but that the cars that are seen abusing the disabled bays are typically (but not always) premium model SUV's, I suspect there may be a correlation between the mindset that enables someone to afford one, i.e. being successful and bend the odd rule here and there, a sweeping generalisation perhaps but I suspect there is some truth in it, also those types of cars do tend to be quite big/aggressive looking so perhaps that has a bearing on it at well.

I am not saying everyone who buys a premium SUV is an Alpha Male, go getting borderline Psychopath, they just arent, but that type of person does gravitate to that type of vehicle, they don't go for Hyundai Superminis or stuff like that.

If we (the disabled) all had one of these, it would soon stop all this trouble about who parks in disabled bays and petty jealousy.

I nearly got knocked over in Wythenshawe centre by one of those when I was a kid, that would have been an irony if I had ended up disabled having been mown down by one, it was a massive fat man driving it who wasn't very pleased at me getting in the way and seemed unmoved by nearly running me over.

There may be a certain amount of nostalgia for an unlikely icon of a bygone era but damn, they cannot have done much for a disabled persons self respect, that said, being mobile is the main thing, I have had a go of a couple of mobility scooters as a couple of mates have them and they are quite pleasant to use, the freedom my mates have with them is amazing.

So what if you are temporarily disabled, ie you really hurt your ankle at work and can barely walk, should you not be able to use the disabled bays?
No. The rules are pretty simple, no blue badge on display...no parking in a disabled bay. What part do you not understand?

I think it's high-time we had a Janet And John book on where you can and cannot park, for those that are thicker than a whale omelette, because parking in a legal and responsible manner seems to be beyond them.
This is not correct. See my earlier post.My local supermarket do not have a problem with temporarily disabled people using their private disabled spaces. They confirmed that a blue badge is not a requirement to park there. Do not confuse privately owned spaces with council spaces.
I had tendinitis quite badly last year and it was bloody excrutiating, never considered using a disabled space as wasn't sure whether limping and wincing would convince anyone.

To be honest, based on that I would feel, at that point I would have been justified and completely within my rights to do so.

My aunt (Mum's sister) had one of those, she lived alone in Barnes, we lived in Ealing. Once she passed her test she was delighted to be able to drive over to see my mum in Ealing for some company. It gave her complete independence and rather than as you say doing nothing for her self respect, the contrary was true because she was proud to have passed her driving test and be able to go anywhere. She was also proud to say she would drive it round Hammersmith Broadway! I drove the thing once, it was bloody lethal! laugh Before my grandparents passed away they did everything for her, (Cerebral palsy) difficulty walking etc., once she was alone she came out of her shell and did everything possible. The little blue car changed her enormously.
I don't think that there are any left running on the roads now, they were all recalled and crushed apart from a couple in private ownership or museums and are no longer legal to use on the road, which seems strange, I can see why the govt might want to stop issuing them but surely a private individual could get one taxed, MOT'd and insured and put back on the road, if they were a bit eccentric that is.

You realise that the reason why so many Zafiras are in P&Cs is because Zafiras are great cars for Parents with Children,,,?

biggrin

oh ffs, find something worthwhile to get insulting about, the man said there were other spaces available, he was sat in the car engine running. People do it all the time at our Tescos to nip to the cashpoint, no one gets upset, no one dies, everyone acts like rational adults
Where was the insult ?

I was pointing out that if you park in disabled spots if not displaying a badge, or some obvious mobility issue then people will be thinking less than positive things, whatever the reason, a lot won't care, a tiny percentage will have something to say, I just think it isn't worth the potential agro.
