I'm just wondering, if you have a collision with a car at a merge in the road (outside lane merges into inside lane), who would the insurance companies make liable?

Would it be the car in the inside lane for being an ass and blocking you from merging or would it be the car in the outside lane for technically changing lanes when it isn't clear?

This would be right at the point of merge too, where the lane markings stop and there are those little curved arrows on the road telling you to merge.

I haven't had a collision, I'm just curious is all. I've had a few incidents of cars not letting me merge by forcefully closing the gap between the car in front and sometimes I've held my ground and forced myself in. Yes probably not the best thing to do but it really pisses me off.

They are probably less willing to accommodate you if you've just shoot past right to the final merge point and expecting them to just let you in.
Match their speed alongside the gap in front of them and indicate without moving across and they are much more likely to drop back to let you in.
That's exactly what I do, I don't fly up like an idiot I just pootle up barley going faster than the other traffic, when I'm getting close to the merge, I pick a gap and match my speed and then when it starts to merge, I start moving across but I've had several cars who then floor it up my inside, meaning they're sat next to me on the inside leaving me no where to go.

And to the stupid point, yes I do try and hold my ground but if it starts to get too close, I just back off even though I'm slightly ahead of the other vehicle being a tosser.
