If everyone was to have 5k to spend on a retro daily driver, what would people go for?

The car would be used for work commutes, the very rare motorway trip and the weekends away.

Im just interested to see if anyone is doing this currently and if any one has any issues?

or what would people go for if they could!!

2x mk1 MX5s have proved to be brilliantly cheap/ reliable DD/ commuters for me, even on my hideous London commute.

1990 UK manual was swapped for an 89 Eunos auto when clutching on the North Circular got tedious.

BRG mk1 was a perfect car for me when I lived in Chiswick. It's a boring answer, but they really are spot on.
mx5 has been looked at, Id love one but cant get enough use out of one frown

So far ones that interest me...

Merc 190 / Bmw e30/e34
Saab 900
Fiat Barchetta
MX5

however they are all common retro daily drivers, (Apart from the fiat) is there anything out there that throws that trend?

porsche 924?
Skyline?
Golf mk1/2?
205 gti?

I used a 190 Cosworth to commute for about 18 months. It was fine really. 25mpg, had a few issues to begin with but once they were sorted it was great.
What issues did you have? And manual?

I am in the process of buying a 1990 XJS that is currently being used as a daily by the owner, & when I collect it in a couple of weeks I will also be using it as a daily.

It is a 3.6 manual though so I am not completely mental!
ive seen a few of these around, are they reliable?
