I've owned my Disco 4 since Feb and went to great lengths to find one with immaculate bodywork. 3 months of parking at the station and it has several marks where mongs have opened doors into it and somebody this week split the driver's side wheel arch by driving into the front of it. £150 damage to suck up. Quite pissed off and wondering what to do.

Considering buying a cheap car for train station duties. Has anyone else done this?

loads of people do. How long is your trip to the station?
Considered a bike?
It's 3 miles and I've rented a premier space right outside the station. Works out about the same as normal space but you have to pay the annual rental in advance. I could forgo this and buy another bike (don't fancy taking the ZZR) but then I'd have all the clobber to deal with and they don't grit the roads in winter where I live.

Could get one of those 3 wheel scooters as they have storage space under the seat or just get another cheap car?

It was cheaper in the end to buy, tax and insure a snotter than to keep shelling out for repairs.
My friendly, local smart repair man is coming out tomorrow to do mine so I feel a little better. People are just so careless, no need for it really.

So what snotter did you go for?

I'm in the same situation. Thinking MK4 Golf GTI or V5.

Yeah, a '90s Corolla or K11 Micra. Cheap to buy, cheap to tax, reliable, cheap parts.
Toyota Yaris looks like another candidate?

Apologies for thread resurrection, but have you thought about a smart repair insurance policy? I pay £150 a year, which covers up to £3000 worth of damage (basically 6 call outs), with a £25 excess each time.

So works out at less than £300 per year, which when compared to the cost of the annual train ticket and parking, is a pretty small percentage.
Worth considering. Had the car repaired by my friendly smart repair guy and I'm very pleased with the results, cannot see any sign of the repair. Cost me £100 inc paint and took him half a day to fix at my home. I've also moved parking spaces at the station so we will see what happens next.
