Gents,

A recent purchase, when doing some (pre-purchase) investigation of value and model/engine etc I tried the DVLA website for tax and MOT status, it returned a blank - "Not Found" (or similar message). Not terribly bothersome because it has "Beta Version" all over it.

I then went to the Autotrader website and did similar (there is a form you can use to pre-fill an ad for example that will tell you what it should be) I used this to check its as advertised and got the message "This vehicle has been reported as Cat A or B" and would go no further.

I spoke to dealer and they assured me that there is likely an administrative issur and redid the H.P.I check and got it sent directly to me (for my benefit) - vehicle came back clean - dealer also spoke to DVLA to confirm issue their end.

Now with the H.P.I clear, the MOT(s) etc all present and correct and assurances from dealer I bought the car - the dealer is a specialist, very highly recommended - (its a niche car by the way) and its been glorious fun ever since........

Some weeks later I've received an email from Insurer saying the M.I.D has returned the result per Autotrader (I would assume that Autotrader also uses M.I.D to do the pre-fill function?) - that the vehicle is a Cat A or B total loss and they would like a copy of V5 and MOT.

Interestingly I've not at the V5 back from Swansea yet.......

I have spoken to both the dealer and insurer, the former has been very amenable about it and is going to follow up on my behalf (DVLA and M.I.D) and I have spoken to the latter and informed them of the situation from my end as it were.

The question is I guess - what do I do next? The H.P.I check is clear and the dealer is very well known and trusted in its field but the possibilities of difficulties in the future (insurance/possible flagging incorrectly as a write-off and problem selling in future if incorrect flagging lingers bothers me somewhat).

Advice? Anyone else had similar experience?

Edit

And now it sounds even worse written down......

Good point, it taxed fine - I did it myself (whilst at the dealers actually)

Scan letter, call dealer, tell them you're emailing a copy of what you received to them and they can call you back in a day or two when they've had chance to figure out what involvement they'd like in this
That's basically what I've already done.

Zollar works in the insurance industry.

It sounds like he's offering to have a quick look on their database for you.
Ah...ok.
