Its getting time to trade in my current vauxhall insignia company car and wondering what to get next. I have a twingo 133 so thats my source of entertainment on a weekend.

I do a lot of motorway miles, long journeys etc so need something comfortable with cruise control. The car my company gets is usually a year old roughly. My choices are:

Peugeout 3008 (no thanks)

Vw passat 2.0 tdi in highline or se trim

Mondeo 2.0 in zetec business or titanium trim

Focus 1.6 tdi zetec or titanium

Im up early some days so the quick clear windscreen ford provide is a big thing thats swaying me

Would the 1.6 tdi in the focus provide enough punch? The 0-60 is 12 which seems awfully slow, is the mondeo bad to drive being so big?

Is the passat better than both despite not having quickclear windscreen, please provide your thoughts/opinions

Big miles = Passat.
Super comfy for long distances.
Is the mondeo not as comfy? The quickclear windscreen is the main thing drawing to it at the moment

I used to do Bournemouth to Livingston on a Monday and Friday.I had a Mondeo and Passat to do it in. The Mondeo was a decent spec, the Passat was an S with cruise fitted as an option.
I'd have to stop in the Mondeo at least twice for a stretch or leg ache
I did the whole 463 miles in one shot in the Passat a couple of times and could have done it many more if it wasn't for the fact I had a couple of coffees before I set off.
But to be honest it was only when the Passat went that I realised the depth of its talent to do ubermiles in one hit.
If it was me, every time - a Passat, with a bottle of rainex and a scraper (on expenses of course)
What is it about the passat is it the ergonomics or the seat shape/fabric whats so good about it compared to the mondeo

No Idea, I'm not an Ergonomicist. Just my experience.
You may be a completely different shape to me, so go down to your local showroom and sit in each.
Sounds like you're hooked on the heaty windscreen though.
It is a big thing to have unless the volkswagen can outway it in other ways

I would have thought that if the budget is more or less the same for each car, the Mondeo would come with more toys/spec than the Passat. Either way, they are both light years ahead of the Vauxhall. I think the only way to say for sure is to see if you can wangle a test drive in each.
Mondeo has a really good spec, the passat has heated seats though which i love haha but dont really need

Does everyone think the 1.6 tdi focus would be gutless?

Once you're cruising you'll be fine but it'll certainly take more work to get it up to motorway speeds.

Remap it biggrin

Crazy suggestion...

Why not go and have a look at all three. Even if it's just going to a dealer when they're quiet explaining the circumstances and having a good look in them.

What works for some, doesn't work for others.
I dont have a great deal of time and im not overly particular just want to know if each car is comfy/nice to drive and punchy enough given the engines i have stated

Job done. I would go Passat or Mondeo. Always found VW seats more comfortable than Ford personally, so probably the Passat but haven't sat in current models of either. The Passat is a saloon and the Mondeo is available as a hatch. Does that matter to you?
This confuses me how do you know if its a hatch or saloon? To me all long cars with 5 doors have been a saloon but i see some being called a hatchback and they look nothing like what i image a hatchback to be i.e. focus, leon, Mini

Got to sat that looks smart, Mondeo's are a good drive with Passat Superb etc being around the same money I'd take the Ford.
Think im going for the mondeo seems to have more equipment as standard whereas the passat i might end up with a good one without something essential such as cruise control

Will the focus titanium 1.6 tdi be too tedious to drive on the roads?, i.e. will the lack of power/torque frustrate

If I may suggest the Volvo V40 or V60. They tend to be a Bit nicer than the equivalent Ford but had access to the same parts. Definitely better seats.
As stated in the op i have a limited choice

Just a quick q. When you say high miles? If you're talking 15k miles, then go with the Mondeo. It'll be more fun to drive more of the time. If you're doing over 25k then go for the Passat. Not only will it be more relaxing to drive, you get in at one end and get out the other without realising how far you've gone or how long you e been sat there. When you're doing big miles dull is good.
Mileage is about 20,000 so between the two haha
