Saw three Golf R's in the works car park today, everywhere I go I see them, I can see why but it made me wonder whether or not anyone still buys the GTI, which does most of what the R does and isn't hugely slower.

However it isn't hugely cheaper to buy from what I can see and to lease there isn't anything in it, in fact the R is cheaper based on the limited research I just did.

Would have to be a decent chunk cheaper to not stretch to an R I guess ?

A lot of angry folk on the R Forums about the lease deals. In two years, the bottom is going to fall out of the Golf R second hand market as they flood the market. The GTI might actually be worth more!
Why would they be angry, arent most leased ? do you mean the ones that bought them outright ?

I dont think anyone will be giving them away after a couple of years, it may mean there is a bit more choice but I bet they get snapped up, what makes them desirable to lease/buy new still holds true, there are a few about but not sure the market will be flooded, there are an awful lot of punters with 20 or so grand for a nice 2 year old Golf.

I parked up this morning, reversed in and there was yet another behind me, a grey one, the others are all blue.

I suppose VW arent all that bothered, it probably costs a fair percentage of a Golf R to make a bog spec Match special edition, a GTI wont cost much more to make than that and an R gets a couple of extra driveshafts and a rear diff and they are flying out of the door.
