Not a rant, just an observation.

I used to have an mx5 import (where this subject seems most prevalent) and as such still have friends from forums and see all nature of social media posts featuring mx5s.

What I've noticed is an influx of frankly crappy bolt on aluminium spoilers - like those of 12-15 years ago - making a comeback.

I'm talking the sort of tat you'd get from the likes of Ripspeed and regularly see fixed to the back of a Ford Orion together with obligatory sponsor stickers.

Back then the majority would have pointed and laughed and eventually shrugged - it is after all your own prerogative what you do to your car.

I wish I could post some examples, but I'm on my mobile phone so you'll either have to use your imagination or do some research. Common crappy mods currently doing the rounds include-

DIY wrapping - wrinkles included
DIY plasti-dip paint jobs and...
...Matt black paint with zero preparation
Genuinely expensive 'Big Gay Wings' not proportional with the size of the car and 9 times out of 10 not in-keeping with the level of performance either!
Painted stock wheels with zero prep which inevitably chip/flake
Italic script window stickers often right in the drivers line of sight stating how 'scene' or 'fresh' they are
Boso-style exhausts while not adopting any of the rest of this inspiration
People 'adding camber' for aesthetics

Don't get me wrong - I love modified cars and historically have experimented with my own cars with varying degrees of success, but the forums are so politically correct now you can't point out how cack something looks without being shot down for being a "hater"

No, I don't "hate" either you nor what you've created, I'm merely notifying you that what you've done looks sh*te!

It's not the act of doing it I'm against - it's the response you get when you offer your opinion.
Person posts new modification asking for "opinions"
Negative comments made
"hater"

I despair. I just hope all the good MX5s aren't all ruined by the time I can justify owning another!
