Performmaster AMG GT

Can't wait for AMG's faster GT? This one is already beyond 600hp and 200mph...

Well this is convenient timing. Just as AMG teases what's likely to be a faster GT, a German tuner releases a power kit for it.

10.2 seconds to 124mph...
10.2 seconds to 124mph...
Of course you can't really compare tuner special with factory flagship but, well, Speed Matters and we like the AMG GT. One with more power sounds pretty exciting so it's worthy of some news coverage.

This car comes from German company Performmaster and is described simply as a 'PEC tuning module'; it has always been suggested there is some tuning head room in the 'hot-V' 4.0-litre V8 and now we already have some proof. Through what appears little more than some electronic tinkering, the AMG GT can produce 612hp and 575lb ft. Which is rather a lot. Furthermore, the upgrade works the same effects on both the 'base' AMG GT and the GT S. For the former that means a 32 per cent increase in power. For both the peak power figure remains high in the rev band at 6,000rpm, although maximum torque arrives a little later: where the standard cars produce it from 1,600 (GT) and 1,750rpm (GT S), the Performmaster GT doesn't reach its peak until 3,750rpm. You suspect it will always be fast enough.

They'll do it for the C63 as well...
They'll do it for the C63 as well...
The result? A few tenths of the 0-62mph time at 3.6 seconds and then a ludicrous 0-124mph time of 10.2 seconds, 1.3 seconds faster than even the GT S. Top speed is now 205mph.

The catch? Er, we're struggling at the moment. It's even warrantied, for two years or 100,000km (62,000 miles) for European owners. It even states that "in case of a claim, without any upper limit or any causality proof to be furnished." Perhaps it will all come tumbling down when a price is announced, which isn't available yet...

Whatever, the news of a warrantied 610hp AMG GT should be enough to put a smile on anybody's face? And if that doesn't do it for you, Performmaster is working on a similar upgrade for the C63...

I love the AMG GT, it looks fantastic in the flesh and I bet it is a hoot to drive.

This will only improve things.
