Today a guy reversed into my Zed at a petrol station. Thankfully he didn't get much speed up so the damage doesn't seem too serious.

I took some photos and exchanged details also asking him to admit liability as I was stationary. I should have smelled a rat when he wanted to sort it out in cash. I just said I'd rather let the insurance sort it out as the Zed is cherished. Details exchanged off I go.

The note he wrote didn't state admitting blame. So I called on the number he put down. Shock, Horror, Dead line.

I called my insurers and the police. It turns out the car wasn't insured.
brilliant. I'd also be amazed if he's actually at the address he gave.

It's a official, anyone who'd gangsta up an Eos is most likely an uninsured tool. Sigh.

Cheers chaps! Thankfully, the Z4 isn't that badly damaged so it's more the inconvenience and cash (my excess is twice my insurance cost).

Yes, I have an unnatural attachment to it but in the grand scheme of things I wasn't hurt, I'm a law abiding citizen, have a decent job, life goes on.

The guy was a bell end, I doubt it would have cost that much to insure it and he wasn't in his early 20's.

I will however be joining the dashcam brigade. unfortunately some people are just, well, morons.

Anyone know if dashcam footage can be used to backup an insurance claim? Or is it next to useless due to data protection etc?

Cheers T1b

Alas, the database will tell you if any current and valid insurance is against the vehicle. Mr X (As I doubt the details he gave me were actually his) most likely gave me the details of one of someone who's address he knew.

It will be a dead end as the insurance company will write to someone who has no idea who has given his name and address at an RTC.

At launch, I was very very close to getting a 350Z, stuck with the Corrado and after selling the house there was some cash left over after the new house purchase. We talked about the Boxster S but figured the servicing costs on a Dealer Z4M would be lower, plus the Boxster S was about 25k the Zed was 19k.

Hammond described it as Fred Flintstones car. Pretty apt. Very analogue and even by today's standards quite rapid smile
