VW Touran 1.9TDI cuts out in the rain

Hi new to the forum so i hope this is allowed. I have a VW Touran 1.9 TDI 05 plate, with a very unfortunate fault. Every time it rains I end up breaking down.

So picture the scene, I drop the wife off to work which is about 3 miles away from our house, I have the two kids in the back as I leave the wife work to go on to the main road the car starts to shudder, engine management light comes on along with the screen saying "engine fault garage". This is the 4th time its happened and the recovery guy that is always sent out is getting sick of me.

The underneath looks ok, under the bonnet is as dry as a bone! when the recovery bloke comes and reads the faults it always comes up with random faults, all four occasions have been different codes. Its getting to the point that i worry that its going to rain, and thats no life to have.

Is there anyone who can help me? The garage just scratch their heads. I am not mechanically minded but will have a go at most things.

Thanks for the input I've checked and double checked the cabin with no sign of dampness and the only place I haven't checked Ia the wheel arch it's really starting to make me want to scream.

this happened again yesterday this time an unexpected rain shower on the M5. Every thing cut out and i was stuck with no breaks, no steering. I cant help but think its coming through the grill and the water is shorting something. Any further ideas would be a great help. I thought it could be happening when i have the demisters on???

Or do i just sell the car?
