Morgan AR P4 announced

Cosworth engine, adjustable dampers and £55K for 65th anniversary Plus 4

Between the hilarious 3-Wheeler and captivating Plus 8 variants, the four-cylinder, four-wheeled models in Morgan's range are occasionally overlooked. Now they're right back in the news with a limited edition to mark 65 years of the Plus 4.

Raffish racer, right?
Raffish racer, right?
The AR Plus 4 has been built by AR Motorsport, Morgan's racing chaps. To that end it features a 228hp Cosworth engine for "a more capable and exhilarating car on both road and track." As well as the new engine, the brakes have been upgraded (with nothing specific confirmed yet), there are new adjustable dampers now standard, a different axle ratio plus a "revised chassis." Again, there are no details on exactly what that revision comprises.

Cosmetic changes over a regular Plus 4 include untrimmed, exposed aluminium to hint at the lightweight focus, the new wheels and AR Motorsport logos. But don't think this is some track renegade special, despite being launched at the Silverstone Classic. Morgan claims there are "significant production changes" over a standard car including new soundproofing and through the body to improve NVH. The dash is updated and said to offer "improved usability for the driver."

Want one? Best be quick, as Morgan will only make 50. The price is £54,995, a fair bit more than the £38,335 for a standard Plus 4 two-seat Roadster. But then that has 156hp, isn't a limited edition, isn't built by the motorsport division and so on. Put it this way: do you think they'll go unsold?
