Thought this might throw up some interesting cars. Two simple rules:

1. To make it slightly more accessible, if you really can't find a car from your birth year that ignites a passion then you can shift one year either way i.e. if you were born in 1990 you can dip into 1989 or 1991.

2. If you can find a PH ad for your car of choice, chuck it in to keep the PH boys and girls happy wink

I'll start the ball rolling. I'm a 1963 young 'un and there were a fair few beauties 'born' in that year - from the humble Ford Cortina GT and Corsair through to the wonderful 'birth-car' of Lamborghini - the delectable 350 GT.

For me though, the toss up is between two iconic and drop dead gorgeous sports coupes. Ferrari 250 GT Lusso...

...or the iconic Aston DB5 Vantage.

Aston gets it. Just. And in this 'de-bumpered' form it is simply stunning.

1989, can only really be this:

Though Pistonheads' favourite also launched that year:

Across the pond is good smile In fact, cars or bikes from any corner of the planet should be considered thumbup

I was born in 1972 - and I see we haven't had one of these yet. It's not an exotic 'as such' but there's something so honest, so beautifully resolved, so pretty and yet shouldn't really be, based on a rather boring family car. But, I love them SO MUCH. If I get a lottery win, I will be having one:

Mark One Escort, in either Mexico or RS 1600 flavours:

The AVO RS2000 is the one car I really regret selling back in the day. Modena Green with stripes, custom pack trim and original Webasto. Idiot banghead

^ +1 on that. Love that Bullnose TA.

The 2002 Turbo is a lovely looking car but that Turbo Lag takes some skill to master.

1965 - I know it was a mere chassis at the time but what the heck. Apologies for the image overkill but I never tire of looking at these beautiful machines...

No apology needed. I think the Miura (especially in ultra rare SV Jota guise) is one of the most gorgeous car designs of all time.

Sorry...I stumbled across this beauty also released in 1963. It would not replace my first two choices but it would steal third place. Beautiful shape and very classic.

Thanks, very interesting thread. Well, it seems that the 1970s (Alfa Montreal, Citroen SM, 240Z, Pantera, Challenger, Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda, Pontiac Trans Am, Range Rover, Celica, Escort Mexico/RS1600) and 1990s (NSX, Diablo, lotus Carlton, Sierra RS Cosworth 4x4) got off to a great start but the 80s less so....

The Audi Quattro is unquestionably the "best" car launched in 1980... I was going to have a Quattro, it would have to be the 20v, which didn't come out until 1989.
However, the mk3 Escort was also launched in 1980, including the XR3, so I'll take one of those!

Not sure if it's as cool as the outgoing mk2 RS2000 though!

Across the pond, it looks rather better. I'm reliably informed that the 7th gen Ford F150 was introduced in 1980

and although that bodystyle had been around since 1973, the Fall Guy's GMC pickup was a 1980 model. Can I have that?
Old school Fords are great in my book....and if you want to play at being Colt (Lee Majors) in the 'Fall Guy' go ahead - pick ups are rare on here smile

Yes indeed....lovely cars those early Alpines. The later A310s were also great things.

1953. I'm old too.

Why are some people just posting pictures but not giving the year?
Absolutely. The idea is birth year (or a year either side) PLUS a photo. Another ''53 Austin-Healey....

Quite a few I like from 1978 (according to wikipedia, it was 1978 for the M1, one of my favourites, but I know that isn't exactly accurate most of the time). Aston Vantage and 928i are another couple I like from then, but I've always liked these for some reason

The front of the BRAT reminds me of a seventies Triumph (or maybe Rover). Can't recall which one right now... confused
Still have my Tamiya Subaru Brat R/C model from around '83 somewhere in a box....cool little ute.

I can see this thread is going the same way as 'facelift' threads, with the rules being interpreted loosely, or being misread altogether....!
I hope not. Its quite simple

i. State year of birth.
ii. Choose a car that was released or 'born' in that year.
iii. Post a photo of it (the important bit)
iv. Link to a PH ad if you can find one

You are allowed to move one year either side of your birth year if you are a bit stuck on choice (or the car has already been used).

So I'm '63...could have chosen '62 or '64 too.

Savvy?

Dave

I was born in 1985, on the very day the hole in the Ozone Layer was discovered apparently, and these seem like the best bets for the year:

The Bentley Turbo R

I can't find any 1985 ones for sale but here's a low mileage 1990 one:

The BMW M5

Here's a 1986 one for sale:

Both of those are lovely - I love performance saloons...both designs have matured well with age. Brutal.
