Top Five at five: WRC liveries
Here are PH's five favourite rally liveries, now's the time to share yours!
Picking up where 'Dab of oppo(sition)' left off, this story is a conversation starter as much as anything. Nowhere on the Internet has stronger opinions than PH, with thousands of posts every day, so why not encourage that even further? The top five will most often be cars but could well expand; let's see how the response is!
So we'll start with a nice easy one that everyone will have an opinion on: Top five rally car liveries. Why? Well Dan's NotImpreza is returning to its maker very soon and Subaru's reputation has been built largely on stage success; what more excuse do you need to discuss rally cars? See below for our (fiercely debated) choices for the five and be sure to submit yours below. Any more vids gladly welcomed too, of course!
No discussion of any motorsport livery would be complete without Martini. On track and stage it has made some truly spectacular-looking racing cars. Our choice? The Lancia 037. Last two-wheel drive car to win the WRC, overshadowed a little by Lancia's other rally cars (more on that soon) but crucially so well suited to those red and blue stripes - phwoar!

Arguably the most iconic livery of the 90s - though the Castrol Celica may have something to say about that - every rally fan of that decade will have an 555 Impreza story to tell. It was of course a time built heavily on UK success too, with both Burns and McRae taking rally wins. The gold wheels, blue paint the boxer burble and '555' proudly emblazoned down the flanks; it's an evocative combo!

Rothmans had to feature, but on which car? The Metro 6R4 just edged out the MkII Escort with those stripes streaking high up the spoiler, the Rothmans text across the chin and the colours cloaking a wonderfully butch body. Combine the livery with the Brit built link and that howling V and you have a rally car people still get excited about now.

Castrol and Toyota are inextricably linked, what with those JGTC Supras, the Corolla and many Celicas; the white, green and red had to feature. That the Castrol Celicas are associated with one of the most legendary cheating scandals in rallying history. So it's significant as well as looking great. Does it make your list? Share below!

What was that about Lancia's other rally cars? Here Delta gets the vote over Stratos because more us were watching rallying in the Delta's time than the Stratos. Therefore Repsol beats Alitalia. Just. Sorry! But those bold, vibrant Repsol colours worked so well on the Delta's quite boxy shape, especially with some very bright mud flaps too.
