The cyclists (helmet cammers, quelle surprise) seem to take a surprising amount of glee in holding up the traffic, laughing at them, and turning around to have another pop at blocking side roads etc.

What a bunch of tossers.

Critical Mass. A mixture of soap-dodging anarchists who latch onto any opportunity to be a , trustafarians, and idiots. They've held me up when I've been trying to get home on my, err, road bike. Do they give a st? No.

They are not "cyclists". They are aholes who happen to own bikes. I wouldn't judge all cyclists by their actions any more than I'd judge all motorcyclists by the behaviour of tts who ride around on stolen mopeds.

Trust me, most regular cycle commuters hate critical mass events too. I'm not going to apologise on their behalf but they try to make a point about road use, infrastructure etc, albeit very badly and to the frustration of other road users.

Problem is they made you angry and now it's other cyclists who will suffer. Don't stop giving all cyclists space etc.

In short, they are a minority, don't take out your frustration on the next cyclists you see just because this lot annoyed you.

It's the same as using the chavs who circulate empty industrial estates at night doing burn outs in corsas to represent performance car enthusiasts, clearly they don't but a passer by who sees it could easily lump most "pistonheaders" with GTRs etc in with them.

Not wanting to start an argument but does this assumption apply to dash cams too?

So to summarise, everyone thinks they are dicks, no one agrees with their actions and the world stops turning due to PH agreeing on something...

It's not cyclists that are the problem, it's London cyclists.

Just what London needs on a Friday night, extra traffic congestion and more pollution !

Hilarious. Every one agrees critical mass riders are dicks. The rides themselves possibly had good intentions at the outset but are now just an excuse to rile other road users and they represent 1% of cyclists who use the roads..... yet everyone is now trawling youtube for more footage to fuel this outrage.

Being serious, herein lies the problem. The actions of some cyclists could seriously impact others. OP could now have a negative opinion of cyclists and doesn't see fit to provide them with space when overtaking because the memory of the critical mass is still fresh in his mind.

But how many of us witness some crappy driving and then immediately turn against ALL other motorists refusing to give them space or deliberately cutting them up. Doesn't happen and nor should the logic apply to cyclists, pedestrians etc etc.

BMW driver doesn't indicate - they all don't indicate

Audi driven by a nob - all Audi drivers are nobs

And so on...
I don't disagree but that's restricting the behaviour to certain marques not all drivers. Everywhere you look on PH it s "cyclists" not people on particular brands.

To be honest, if there is one thing that would annoy me more than a critical mass, it's dicks standing in the road filming chavs in modified datsuns around London trying to capture the moment flames pop out of the exhaust just to put the footage on youtube...

I can remember one in the mid 90s in Bristol, they used old cars to block the entrance to the M32 at St Pauls and had a party in the road. The protest was about the loss of green spaces in the city and the poor road infrastructure for cyclists, we're a right-on liberal bunch in the south west, well when we're not ploughing, scrumping or boffing our sisters...

Its a shame that its so confrontational now but hardly surprising. They would make a far better point were they to obey all traffic signals and just ride en masse. That way everyone would be a little more aware of just how many people have cycles, could be on the road at any time and the space they require.

I see.

So if your car can't overtake a cyclist with "impinging" on it or other road users, it's not fit for purpose.

That doesn't make much sense does it?

Perhaps it's the driver who's not fit to be on the road.

And if you can overtake cyclists, WTF are you complaint about in the first place?

Until cyclists ride in a safe and considerate manner on safe bikes why should I as a car and truck driver and sometimes motorcycle rider treat them with anything other than disdain ?

When you lot stop driving while on the phone, reading porn and murdering prostitutes, i as a rational road user will avoid you like the plague.

Your attempt at trolling earlier in the thread was (absolutely correctly) completely ignored by everyone.

This trolling attempt doesn't even make sense to me rolleyes

And I'm a 'friend' of yours. .... smile

NB inverted commas on friend as I refuse to be your friend when you're wearing lycra, being ridiculous about cycling/people's cars/people's weight or generally trolling thumbup
fair comment imho. Basically boshly saw some cyclists being diicks and now treats all cyclists with this level of contempt. Some truck drivers are appalling, watch tv whilst driving etc etc, I treat them too with disdain....

....except I dont because I recognize each trucker as an individual and don't tarnish them all by the actions of one.

It's a simple concept yet I'm staggered by how many people can't grasp it. When I'm cycling my life depends on people like Boshly treating me on the basis of MY riding and no one else's....

is it really that much of an issue to warrant deploying 2/3 of the MET?! once a month they meet, cause disruption for a few miles, inconvenience everyone for ten minutes then leave. If everyone in cars stopped matching the cyclists aggression with confrontation and sat waiting for a few minutes, they would soon stop. I'm not saying that's fair on the people in cars but it's the way to deal with attention seekers and doesn't require hundreds of police officers who we must all agree are better deployed elsewhere on a Friday night....
