STOLEN RENAULT 5 TURBO 2 BLUE 1984
Discussion
Hello all
I'm sad to say that my R5 turbo 2 was stolen last night, from its storage unit near Darlington. Recent photo below:
The car was insured but I don't want the money - it took me 15 years to find this car. Any news/information that leads to the return of the car I will pay 5k pounds for.
Please share
Thanks

Thanks for comments guys
@Birma, yes I would not be surprised if it ended up in bits as they are not common.
@Monkeylegend, very true mate but this world is all about the dollar* now. People have their own lives to contend with & maybe can't give any time to a stranger's problems when they have their own stuff going on. Nice username btw
*other currencies are available

thanks for comments all, very much appreciated. Sad times indeed
@RobinBanks, thanks but it is a in a 'Rent a Ramp' type workshop - usually with a cover on it but the business is for sale so maybe the owner invited the ;wrong' people for a viewing
@MrMoonyMan, appreciate the comment sir. I have shared & people have shared for me. The more platforms that have this information, the less likely a sale will become as you say.
@epom, lol OK I will check down the back of the couch for any spare pennies for that sort of thing
@GrumpyTwig, thank you
Everybody else who took the time to post, thank you very much
If this can be shared as much as possible there is a better chance of getting it back.
Thank you again

That's sort-of good news then, right? Presumably the forces of law and order are descending on the area as we type? I sincerely hope so and that your very special car is recovered quickly and in good shape.
Yes mate hope so. Not 100% yet but better than the car being in bits in Europe...AntiLag1 said:
Hope you get it back mate!
Thanks fellaI'm not on Twitter but I'm told it has been re-tweeted by Chris Harris, Harry Metcalfe & Evo magazine

Please share, the more people that are aware, the better
Thanks for all comments, guys....thanks for looking, sharing. My opinion is that interest in the car generated on forums/Facebook/Twitter played a big part in events
According to a colleague of mine who lives in that area, the car was left in a quiet road - probably to check whether a tracker was fitted.
Here are some shots of how it was found:

The story is not over yet, but the main thing is, my fluffy dice appear to be safe...

Thanks everyone who took the time to post/share/just look at this thread
I'll update with pictures as soon I get some - as far as I know the car is fine but not back with me yet
About the stolen-recovered thing, that is a good question although I am not really worried about future value...no plans to sell it. No doubt I will find out.
I will never forget this one....
It did and it still does.

thsnks for comments guys
I found a rear light on Fleabay. TDC bumper n/s spotlight is smashed so will need to find one of those. Mecaparts in France stock a fair amount of stuff & the prices are not too mad (unlike 3S developments...!)
I'll get it up on a lift & have a good look at the bumpers & GRP tube. Hopefully good news!

It looks worse than that to me I'm afraid. The (non-standard) front Tour de Corse bumper has been crunched back on its brackets. Hopefully this hasn't damaged the glass-fibre "safety cell" tube in the front which strengthens the car in a front ender. From the photos I think that will be OK and a bit of remedial bracket bending should sort the bumper out. I had to replace the front bumper on my old one when I forgot to apply the handbrake / leave in gear after putting it in the garage and it rolled across the passageway into the wall opposite!
The rear bumper has also been crunched as can be seen from the fasteners jutting out. These used to be bespoke fixings, but were available a few years ago when I needed some. The trouble is that the impact may have damaged the fibre-glass at the fixings holes on either/both bumpers, which is what killed my front bumper and led me to source a good second-hand replacement.
I think the smashed rear light is standard R5 so should be easy to replace. The dented hatchback should be a relatively easy fix for a bodyshop.
However all of these minor issues add up to a big hassle (inc. re-spraying) which the scumbag thieves have left the OP to sort out. I bet he feels violated, but I wish him all the best in getting it back to how he wants it!
thanks fella you have obviously been there. Exactly that - minor stuff that adds up to a fair bit of work. I'm too old & ugly to be violated but certainly had better things to do with my time. The engine & turbo were heading towards needing a rebuild anyway....can't imagine these guys let the turbo warm down :/The rear bumper has also been crunched as can be seen from the fasteners jutting out. Silly question time, how does it work with insurance when dealing with stolen-recovered classic cars? do they pay out a fixed to repair the damage caused in this instance? or do you invoice them until it is in the same condition as before
I've no idea I'm afraid, I will be fixing it myself. The insurance company would be no help whatsoever in this situation IMHOEdited by jamesy12345 on Tuesday 8th September 13:39
Right then, final update on the stolen/recovered adventure...the police have finished looking into this & didn't find enough evidence to nick anyone for it, shame
The T2 is getting fixed up, slowly. I wasn't happy with the oil pressure when it returned, so decided on a rebuild, which grew into deciding on changing the engine for a new (to me) 200 CV lump with steel liners
Case closed, Holmes
