Inspired by the Cars You Never Knew Existed thread , and the fact that I found out there that the Vauxhall Astra MKII is still made

It got me thinking what cars you thought were dead are still made?

I suppose the obvious one is the Hindustan Ambassador which was a 1950s Morris. Is that sill in production?

For now I guess the Defender fits into this category.

There are probably ancient Rovers being made in China.....but I guess as the developing world gets more sophisticated locally built current models of Audis Jaguars or whatever will become the norm.

So what's still alive that most of us thought was dead?

Does the Caterham Seven fall into this category? It's not the same car that Chapman designed in the 50's, but it's certainly evolved from that.
I'd have thought so. I doubt any of the cars I am thinking about would be totally original. They're bound to have modern engines and stuff.

Still make a very original looking Beetle somewhere ... Africa?
I thought they'd stopped building them in Brazil last year.

As said it was Mexico....but production finally ended back in 2003, not last year.
Yes Mexico sorry. Getting my Latin Smercan nations mixed up.

Was it the VW van that was built until recently?

Picture of a more recent model, the red one looks more like an 80's model year.
Id imagine there would be a huge amount of red tape to overcome if someone set up a business importing these into the UK.

They are already RHD but I guess emissions and passive safety may be obstacles. The firms that imported Vw Vans and Beetles managed it.

I could see a market for them if not too pricey. 40-somethings who wanted ones as teenagers. 50 somethings who had them back in the 1980s. Then there's the Dub Scene. A huge after sales market in engine mods, suspension, wheels and trinkets.
