Hi all!

I am 18 and will soon(ish) be looking to purchase my 2nd car, for my 2nd year of driving. (With 1NCB hopefully)

I am looking for inspiration for a car. Like many people, my phone battery is mostly used on autotrader, fleabay, forums, FB and anything else where cars come up for sale. However I would like input from people who may have done this before? Or parents? About what to get next...

I currently drive a Punto Active Sport 1.2 8v. And with a 13.5 0-60, it's anything but sporty. I don't mind faster, but it's got to be good on the insurance.

I recently discovered Subaru put a 1.5 in their Impreza, which comes out at £1800 for a 2nd year. Not too bad imo. But what else lurks out there?

I've still got a few months before I'm buying a car, but I want to get one in mind and find a decent one first. I suppose my budget is £2.5-3k max, but I have no min if it's a good car smile

Any thoughts or 2p's worth is welcome!

Thanks very much smile

I do agree with you there, there are some randomly strange deals with insurance, but my issue is it has to be cheap because I'm on an apprentice wage frownfrown

I don't mind monthly, but 2k is probably the limit on insurance.

The 100HP's I think look quite nice, but I find the swift is not the pritiest thing, but many thanks smile

Sorry I'm not the best with Hondas, I've seen a 1.6 Vtec civic sport (2003) if that's the one you mean? Or is it the newer/older shape?

I like the idea of a 3 series, I'm not too bothered about speed, just a better can than a Mk2B punto smile

I've been sat back for a bit just watching this thread and I'd just like to say, barges aren't good. Polly (the punto) is group 12 insurance @ £1500 1st Year. A 2.5 diesel discovery LR or Defender or even Range Rover (I like LR's) are all group 10 yet they are £4K + to insure.

My mum used to have a Volvo 960 24v. 2 ton, 140mph and did the sprint in less than 10. Yet this is about £5k to insure.

Now you can all argue which car I'm more likely to crash, or can drive faster in, but I'm afraid barges don't work frown

The Series 3 that was suggested I like, however the insurance is still around the 3-4K which is too much for me.

My dad had a Honda Accord, 2.0 VTEC 148bhp, and that was £1800 to insure first year... Makes no sense, yet this 'barge' is cheap to insure? I don't really like the car tbh, colour is horrible.

Some barges are good, but you'd spend absolutely hours trying to find the rare model that never comes up for sale, which doesn't have £99999999 insurance

On polly, when I put my mum on, it upped it by £400/year. Same on my mates fabia. Yet another mate I have is about to take his test and looking for a car, adding his mum took £400 off.

Lambo Huracan. The fabia mate did a quote on this, came back as £6000. Lol

Like the Lupo GTi, but £1900 with black box is far too much 2nd year than I'm prepared (I don't like black boxes smile ) and £4K without frown

Problem is, 20 is 3 yrs Ncb and 3 years more mature. The amount of difference 3 years makes even without having licence or Ncb is mental

I actually just did one. About £1200 but what I'm weighing up is £1800/Impreza or £1200/panda. And if I'm honest, I'm leaning Impreza. Not being funny but any 18/19yr old driving any Subaru let alone an Impreza?
