C63 Estate v 535D Touring
Discussion
Hi all,
I've been wanting a C63 for a while now. Finally took one out for a test drive the other week and I'm still smiling! Only thing is, the wife would rather I bought a more economical car. I hear the 535D is a good car and offers great performance for a diesel, with great fuel economy.
but... it's still a diesel! I know it sounds not bad with the sound actuator, but the question is: could I enjoy the experience from a 535D or would I always be wishing I bought the C63?
That sound!!!
All the best,
Andrew

Great replies! thanks all!
I must admit, my heart is going with the C63. I was laughing when I drove it. that sound was intoxicating! I drive a 2.0 Audi TDi now (chipped) and it bores me rigid.
I think I'll check out the 535D out of curiosity, but I agree with the comments that it's still a diesel and won't make you want to wind down the windows through a tunnel. I know it will cost more in fuel, I tend to do around 10k a year but 2.5k of those comes from driving to France in the summer laden with roofbox etc.. I'm not to bothered by the fuel consumption (the wife is though ) but the small tank could be a pain!
I'm aware it eats rear tyres, but so does my Audi on fronts right now. why do the brakes wear so quickly? Is it because they are drilled or just simply because people really hammer them?
I think sensible = 535D, Fun = C63.

I am so glad I asked this question now. In fairness, it is a bit crazy to compare the two, but I had a good reason: I wanted to put to rest my conscience / mr sensible v the real me. I wanted to know if the 535D would be like just owning another faster version of the car I have. And I think I've more than confirmed that now.
I can't stop thinking about that C63 I drove and I want more of it, even though I know it will p1ss my wife off as it's not a sensible choice. but it's so much fun that I have to have it.
It's been good to hear that others on here have found the 535D to be not that much more economical (ok, I know I'm stretching things now), as that makes another good case for the c63. My view is, while I can afford it, I may as well enjoy it as I may never get another chance.
Thanks for all the replies. I've really enjoyed reading every one of them. Especially those in favour of the Merc

I wish there was a like button or something. Some of the responses have been brilliant!
To start with, it was a strange comparison, but it was a real situation comparison - get the car I really want (C63) or go for the more everyday type of car with the aim of saving money.
I really like the fact that the numbers stack up in favour of the Merc when you include depreciation. And that's a good point as I noticed the C63 holds it's value pretty well for the type of car ( after initial new car drop). I also like (and have imagined many times) , the thought of pulling away from those tolls in the V8
The reason I didn't consider an RS4 was because I need to do the awful thing of fitting a towbar (detachable) so I can put my bike carrier on the bike when we go to France. Also, despite the boot being slightly smaller, it's more usable in the Merc than the Audi. Plus, having driven an Audi for many years, I want to get away from that dead steering feel.
The BMW 335i sounds a great car. Loved the soundtrack btw. But the C63 is in a league of it's own for noise and fun factor. I think to better it, I'd have to go to some serious money stuff.
I'm more sold on the C63 than ever!
Thanks all

Love the vids!! That grey colour is my fave! I'm hoping to get a grey one (2013 model) with black wheels, but I don't mind the 18" wheels as they look sweet too!
This car is incredible!!
Thanks again everyone for your opinions. Been great reading them all! Just hope one comes available soon now haha!

Well I finally found the car I wanted. After getting the all important approval from the boss, I placed a deposit on a lovely palladium silver C63 with black wheels - my #1 choice (from GC motors in Harrogate). Placed a £2k deposit on it and was all excited to collect the thing next week... until I got a phone call about 1.5hrs later to say that they had made a mistake and already taken a deposit on it before I did.
Considering that the sales exec had to speak to the manager to approve the deal I had agreed, I really don't believe this. My feeling is that they probably got a better offer and took it. Gutted!
So now I'm back to square one in trying to find my c63!!

So it seems I'm not alone then. There were quite a few on Autotrader and PH classified a while ago but there's not much choice right now. Just hoping some come available soon, as like one of the previous comments said, once you test drive one, it's all you want! In fact I can't stop thinking about it. just hope this doesn't too long haha.

that's a very nice example for the age. thank you for this. But the model I'm after is 2012+ Palladium silver / grey / black, black AMG 19 wheels and less than 30,000 miles if poss. I think this is the reason I'm still looking cheers,
Andrew
I'm really struggling to find an Estate C63 of the spec that I want. I have £35k to spend and after this https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=...
Hopefully that link works? It is a Palladium silver c63 with the black AMG wheels. Love it!! I want a 2013> and under 30,000 miles. Now that I have the green light to buy, there's nothing out there! Typical heh! :|
Anyone know any other sites to search other than AT and PH?
oh, and after driving a good petrol engine again after 10 years of diesels, I can't wait to leave the oil burners behind.
All the best,
Andrew

Thanks for all the messages guys! I got it in the end Not sure how you post an image at the moment, but it's Black and only done 3900 miles!!! It's like having a new car!!
so my summary so far:
The sound when you start it puts a huge smile on my face every time!
The amount of people that have commented on the sound to me!
The performance is incredible in Savage mode (Sport+)
The seats are awesome!
Did I mention the sound?
My kids love it!
Down side: I've already kerbed (slightly) the rear nearside wheel. Anyone recommend a good wheel specialist that deals with diamond cut wheels? Tempted to leave it for now as it's not that bad and only on the rim edge.
What leather treatment do people recommend? Was going to get Zymol unless there is better?
all the best,
Andrew
