I currently own a mk4 Supra running around 400bhp and Im looking to change into something else. Budget is around 20k.

Criteria:

MPG doesn't matter as this will used for shows/weekends only.
Seats/Practicality doesn't matter, most extreme il go is probably an Elise as I need a roof for storing on drive and I dont want to mess around with covers or kitcar
Similar Bhp per tonne as current car
RWD/4WD
Something that can handle well and not too heavy
Special/rare, no German saloons etc.

A few options Ive come up with:

Evo 9 GT/MR - Covers a alot of my criteria, may sound a bit flat compared to what Im used to
R33 GTR - Same as above, feels a bit more special, under budget
Lotus Elise/Exige - Always wanted one, may seem sluggish to what Im used to, need a go in one

Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the suggestions.

I was considering a Cerbera/Chimaera and I was going to put on my shortlist but the lack of mechanical knowledge and possible big maintenance bills put me off. Also it will be a summer car so stored out on the drive in winter and I read they dont like been stood for months. It could all be say say but the general stereotype of tvrs put me off even though the pros outway the cons. May have to ask in the TVR sub forum.

I know what you mean about the evo/r33 not been special enough but performance wise they would be similar in the straights to my supra and far superior in the corners due to my lack of driving ability and confidence in the supra.

I had a mk1 mx5 as a daily last year and I loved that, still miss it now, so im guessing an higher power elise/exige will be even better.

Im still open to suggestions, going to have a look round a few and go from there.

Thank you for all the replies.

Trust me Ive ran through the possibility of throwing around 10k at the Supra to get big power a thousand times. This would include 600 bhp, a fast spooling small single turbo setup, all features with the syvecs but at the end of the day it would still be heavy, still feel poor in the corners and only show bragging rights down the pub.

My Supra is tiptronic auto and ive never got on with it so that would have to change adding another 5k to the bill.

Ive owned the car 18 months now and for looks, power and noise I dont think you can get much better for the money I bought it for but i think its time to move on.

A TVR has always been a heart choice but then my head says get something reliable. I will have another look into them.

A mate had a VX220 Turbo but I never got on with the looks.

Will keep researching.

Bit of a thread revival here but the supra is up for sale and mostly likely gone by saturday so now im free to look out/test drive some of these choices. Probably goong to buy a 4.2 Cerbera in the craziest colour i can find and enjoy it! Going out in one soon so hopefully it will get me hooked.

Other choices are a Chim, r33/r34 gtr or some kind of lotus. Wish me luck.

Just saw my thread been revived so thought id post an update. The supra is gone, sold within a week and got exactly what I wanted for it so now Im on the hunt for another car.

Im going out in a Cerbera in a few weeks, kindly offered by a PH'er on this thread so I cant wait for that.

The searching has already begun and Im kinda fixed on a TVR, I may go out and test drive an Exige at some point but the 4 cylinder, lack of character engine puts me off, Im only saying this due to having the same 2zz engine in my daily Celica. Im guessing in the Lotus its a different animal.

Budget could be stretched for the right car but around 20k is what im aiming for, with enough held back for maintenance.

I was looking the other day and Tuscans are within budget but low end of the price range so will have to research those, how does the Speed 6 compare to the ajp8?

A Chimaera 4.5 is well within budget too for a good example or maybe stretch to a 500. Lots of options at the moment but my heart is set on a Cerb.

Who knows what I will get, decisions!
