My car is on it's last legs and I'm struggling to find something to replace it with. Must be petrol, small enough to easily fit in a single garage and preferably with a higher driving position (just because I find it more comfortable). This will be my work car so probably the most important thing is a huge boot as I need to keep all my spare parts and tools in it. For this reason I also need the boot area to be secure with nothing on display. Mileage is only about 6K per year and budget is £4K Max.

If the Fiat Panda sport was available in the next size up then that would possibly be the ideal choice! Thought about a C-Max but they're a bit "school run" and the old model A-Class are a bit long in the tooth? Can anyone give me some more suggestions so that I can go car hunting this bank holiday?!

Cheers

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I suppose I do want a car that has some of the qualities of a van, but I don't actually want or need a proper van! No diesel as I'm put off by the servicing costs on what will be quite an old vehicle at this price point. I'd also quite like an automatic so maybe a fusion or jazz might be worth a closer look as there seem quite a few about.

I can't take this post too seriously. Requirements are; small, tall, petrol with a huge boot and OP suggests a panda. I suppose 3 out of 4 criteria met isn't too bad :-)
Nope, I actually said if the panda was available in the next size up it would be ideal.

Altea and Mk2 Merc A-class look promising so far. Also wondering if B-Class might be worth a look?

Thanks for the info. Didn't realise the A-Class and B-Class auto boxes can fail so catastrophically. Petrol manual will be what I search for then!

I know I said I wanted some of the features of a van but the kangoo, berlingo, etc are all a step too far I think, although the Fiat Qubo is just about acceptable so that may be worth a look.

Think the A-class is certainly going to be worth a look then. Anyone know how the size compares with the previous model long wheelbase version? I've been a passenger in one of those and the space was impressive, but the newer one looks like it might be a touch smaller? Boot space is the main priority anyway.

Some other good suggestions too so lots to look at, thanks again!
