MOT expert advice needed - Lamborghini LM002
Discussion
Hello
I recently imported a Lamborghini LM002 and need to submit it for an MOT
I am having problems trying to confirm if this should be tested as class 4 or class 7
The GVW is between 3000 and 3500kgs
Class 7 seems to be defined as for Good vehicles which the LM002 isn't but then I have also read that class 4 is for passenger vehicles up to 3000 kgs which this isn't either
I know some Land Rovers had this issue but they were defined under dual purpose vehicles which I don't believe the LM002 is - I see it more as comparable to a Range Rover which I believe are all Class 4
Please help!
thanks
Craig

thanks for the positive comments - it came in from Italy (luckily pre-Brexit!)
the annoying thing is the MOT people for the workshop it's in are saying its over 3000 kgs so must be class 7 - not helped by the fact it has an open "pick up" style body implying it could carry goods
it seems a very grey area :-(

Is there any other LM002's in the country? If so maybe the dvla could tell you what they are classes as? Never had that level of help from the DVLA mind you.
there are some but not sure DVLA would be able to divulgeI did call the DVSA who said because its designed to carry passengers and the outside area has seats it should be class 4 - not helpful though if the MOT place you take it to disagrees
Update: the garage just called me to say the MOT contact agreed it should be class 4 - phew!
BTW AFAIK it doesn't meet the dual purpose definition since unladen weight is over 2040kgs
Someone asked to check the V5 - I would if I had one but the car is just imported and MOT is needed before I can even register it

great to see all the love for these things
I've only driven it to the MOT and put £100 petrol in it which was just below half a tank which was better than expected!
Values have increased over the last few years like most classics - they always used to be similar money to Countach's but are roughly half what they make now so good value (or that's what I tell her indoors!)
looking forward to getting some use out of this summer - hoping to take it to Sliverstone Classic for camping

It certainly is a bit bonkers but that's why I love it
Nothing else like it on the road and must have been even more amazing back in the 1980's before we had anything so large on the roads as the current crop of 4x4's
I'm not worried about fuel consumption as it won't be a daily drive - parts availability is more of a concern but now that Lambo have opened a new restoration facility I understand that parts supply is improving
I'm hoping the one I bought is a good one - it's been registered in Germany and then Spain in the past (and bought from Italy) but seems very original and only 15000 kms showing. It seems completely over-engineered and no surprise it weighs 3 tonnes. My next priority is a Quicksilver exhaust

I've got to ask, how did you arrive at the thinking of one, or did it just come up and you thought you'd have a go?
I know we all love something bonkers (and this looks down on bonkers from a great height in so many ways!) but to actually have the means and the wherewithall to actually say - yup, I'll take - it is something entirely different!
I can't find the review Clarkson did on old top gear where he made a whole street back up in one - but Jay Leno's not a bad alternative.

My brother and I have always been big Lambo fans for a number of years and the fact we both shared this passion had the benefit of meaning we could split the costs with joint ownership. We bought our first Lambo, a Countach QV, back in 1997 (when prices were sensible) and have been lucky enough to have owned a further 7 over the years - the last being a Murcielago which we didn't really gel with.
We realised the 1980's was the real Lambo decade we had the most passion for and given the crazy prices Countach's have climbed to and the fact we'd already owned some before and how impractical they are we got on to the LM002 (you probably wouldn't argue they are practical but definitely more usable!)
We've both loved them over the years and it's great they are still within reach (just) so we grabbed one while we could. The problem has been finding a good one as there are a lot of dogs out there and/or dealers asking silly money.
It's one of those cars that just makes you smile/ laugh out loud when you see it and I can't wait to do a few jaunts in it
And thanks for linking to the Jay Leno vid - I watched it numerous times pre-purchase! There's also a great one if you search under "LM002 Quicksilver Night Drive"

Rambo (the film) was made in 1982 so the film came first (LM built from 1986)Tina Turner decided to swap the Lambo V12 for a Mercedes engine which seems a bit pointless
I picked up the LM at the weekend from the garage that did the MOT - my first proper drive. Well it's not one of those cars that shrinks around you!
Obviously being LHD makes things a bit more tricky but at least you sit high up. The steering is a bit vague as you'd expect and the ride is actually quite firm although the old tyres probably don't help. It is reasonably quick considering the weight although I'm sure you could watch the fuel gauge drop as the speedo rises! The gearbox is quite positive in action and the brakes are good. The clutch is HEAVY and would make a cross-town journey a bit tiring. Just waiting for the reg docs from DVLA then good to go.
