Merc CLS vs S-Class

Just wondering what people think about the merits of a used CLS vs a used S-Class. There's a big difference in cost whe you're looking at 2010-2013 models of these cars.
Is the S-Class worth the premium or is the CLS good enough for short and long journeys? I've been in an S-Class a few times and can see why it's been consistently voted the world's best luxury car. However, I don't know much about the CLS.

I'm really trying to understand the market the CLS is aimed at to see if it would be suitable as my next car as its a hell of a lot cheaper than a used S.
