Geomet coated Brake Discs

I have received an E Mail from Moss Europe promoting the benefits of Geomet coated modern Brake Discs for MGBs, Triumph TRs etc. The Geomet is listed as having an 8 micron thick coating on the disc.
Has anyone used discs coated with this stuff and what are the advantages/disadvantages? It seems like a very thin coating that I would presume will be swiftly worn away by the brake pads or am I wrong? I always thought that the quicker a disc built up surface rust on these old cars was an indication of how good it was.
I remember Triumph motorcycles chrome plating the discs on some of their T140 Bonnevilles in the 1970s and having problems as it wore off unevenly.
