Transferring car, not paying tax twice.

I may be missing something here, but....

A car is being transferred between family this weekend. How can this be done without one of the owners having to pay for a month twice? The DVLA online cancel road tax page only works Monday to Friday.

But the V5 needs to be sent off, won't that cancel the tax, and then it'll be untaxed?

Or are you suggesting not sending off the V5? Family want to transfer the car asap (which is used daily), there seems to be no way to do this and not pay tax twice.

In practical terms - current keeper posts V5 and declares last date of their keepership as last day of the month (or even one day before). DVLA should refund all remaining full months. New keeper taxes online on Monday using the new keeper supplement.

The lag in the system will mean that it shows as taxed during the transition if anyone bothers to check.

This sounds the best idea.
