15k Car - low depreciation...
Discussion
Have another thread running on company car and basically came to the conclusion to take a brand spanking new Audi A6 diesel would not make any financial sense for me.
Therefore I have decided I have upto 15k to spend on a fun car.
Here is my criteria..
Low depreciation,
Fast and fun.
Motorway MPG must be higher than 30 mpg but other than that nice big engines are a plus.
Are high mileage Porsche Caymans a good bet?

Tough to get a nice one these days for 15k.
OP, why 30mpg? What sort of mileage per annum are you thinking you will do?
auto, fun, 15k, quick, I would suggest Cayman or Boxster. No need to be buying high mileage with your budget.

I only do about 10k miles per annum- but for 2 weeks a month my commute is 50miles roundtrip on m25 hence why I thought 30mpg may be a good shout.OP, why 30mpg? What sort of mileage per annum are you thinking you will do?

Thinking about it more - it doesn't really matter as my private fuel will get paid so essentially paying only 40% for my fuel.
What are older porkers going to be like for maintenance?
Thanks for the replies...
Some interesting options
Current thinking is as follows in no particular order.
1) buy a 3k run-about and additionally spend 12-15k on a caterham (struggling to find a choice of caterhams though)
2) Porsche 996 - like this idea and need to look into this more as totally diffierent to anything I have owned before...
3) buy an SLK 55 AMG - will these hold value ?

I'd say Yes, definitely.
How about a Z4M?
.How about a Z4M?
Very very tempting and love the look of them - in my mind a future classic.
Only issue with them is they are manual and for every day commute on M25 I hate doing it in a manual.
Also wife will be driving it when I'm not around and she is much more comfortable in an auto. If they were SMG gear box I would have purchased in a heartbeat.

If it was me and you were wanting to steer away from BMWs why not look at cars with AMG badges. You'd get a decent CLS 55 for around £15k along with a few other models, automatics too.
Then again I am a bit of a Merc fan so can only advise from my experience.
This is what I am leaning towards most as well....Then again I am a bit of a Merc fan so can only advise from my experience.
I have driven both the 350Z (Convertible) and 370Z. Had both of them for a week at a time and while they are very good cars in their own right- for me personally I didn't get as much sense of occasion as I would have liked.
I do really like the AMGs and would love to have a really big n/a engine- as fuel costs are going to be at a 60% or so discount for me it makes sense for me to do this now rather than later.
CLS's seem really good value but I actually don't need a 4 door car so still steering towards SLK 55's - I have never owned a convertible either so this will scratch 2 itches in one go...
