Is this the dream?!
Discussion
Cruising along with both of my kids and the wife in her little peugeot 207 I see what can only be described as a force of nature behind me.
I spend the next few minutes trying to enthuse my wife and have her craning her neck to see the GTR behind us. Once on a NS stretch I slow down a little and wave him through hoping to give us a show to justify my ramblings to the wife and kids as to why its such a great car.
He definitely did that! He dropped it into second I imagine and proceeded to hoon it past with an upshift right next to our car so we got the full brunt of the engine note. Dreammyyyyy.....
Even the wife laughed and thats saying something.
It got me thinking though, this was a perfect storm and a scenario which left everyone happy but I doubt it happens that often for said driver of GTR. But I can only assume this is the sort of thing he enjoys given his number plate choice.
Now my question is.... Knowing how much that package costs to buy / run / maintain.... Is this the dream for may of us?

Nah, the dream is taking a car like that and giving it a good thrashing across an interesting A or B road with no other traffic about.
My 350Z is nothing like a GT-R for grunt but the scenario I wrote above is when I fall in love with it all over again. 6am Sunday morning nothing but the sun rising and an empty road with a V6 making the music. Almost poetic. :bliss:
I recently read a review on the 370Z Nismo and it was described as a mini GTR. Bang for buck I suspect its a much nicer place to be all things considered. My 350Z is nothing like a GT-R for grunt but the scenario I wrote above is when I fall in love with it all over again. 6am Sunday morning nothing but the sun rising and an empty road with a V6 making the music. In a word, no.HustleRussell said:
The Nissan GTR isn't the dream for me (especially with that plate!) but I can relate...
As dreams go, the GTR is quite obtainable- make it happen for you.
I could not run one as a daily, to "in your face" for my line of work. Could I afford one at the minute? In a word, no. But I could afford something very nice and very fast. I will potter about in my little 1 series for the time being until I just cant bare it anymore and in the meantime get my fast fix from goading other road users to floor it!As dreams go, the GTR is quite obtainable- make it happen for you.

Glad you enjoyed the experience OP. Not my dream but they're impressive motors and in a world of GT3RS and Speciales selling for £2-300k I think £90k for a track focussed one is probably a decent buy.
Thank you Hitch. Yes, from a performance point of view you would be hard pushed to buy something standard which could out run it.VladD said:

That's a nice story, a cracking plate, and fair play to the other guy for being a good sport.

Many years ago I was travelling down the A46 in my Impreza Type-R. As I approached a roundabout there was a Gallardo (my dream car) at the junction on the left indicating right. As I went past, I gave him a smile and a thumbs up. So, instead of turning right, he turned left to follow me and on the next straight gave it the full monty going past me. What a noise. He then went 180 round the next roundabout to resume his journey and gave me a smile and a wave as he went. Top bloke.End of the day: Everyone has a smile, no harm done.
