Ford Mustang outsells Audi TT!

Initial launch excitement sees Mustang top sales charts in the UK. 70 per cent are V8 too...

The Ford Mustang is a niche performance car choice, meaning any sales records it will set are going to be pretty niche too. So, yes, the Mustang is outselling the Audi TT - and any Porsche sports car you wish to mention, in fact - but in the arena of 'sports cars with 250hp or more'. No doubt those diesel TT cabrios keep the overall figure higher for the Audi.

Surely UK owners have to do this

Still, a record is a record, and Ford deserves credit for it. So far in 2016, 2,317 Mustangs have been registered in the UK, which places it nearly 1,000 registrations ahead of the second-place Jaguar F-Type (1,446). Also included in the top 10 are the Mercedes SL (489), BMW 6 Series (1,315) plus both four- and six-cylinder versions of the Boxster and Cayman (482 Boxster 718s, 526 Boxsters, 787 Caymans). The figure for TTs over 250hp is 778.

It would seem logical for the initial (and seemingly insatiable) demand to wane once the Mustang aficionados have their cars because, let's face it, the Mustang is hardly a rational sports car choice. Still, it's nice to see Ford's decision to create a right-hand drive Mustang vindicated. And isn't it nice to see something different on UK roads? Best of all, 70 per cent of customers over here are opting for the V8. Good work!

Should you wish to order a Mustang in the UK now, the latest cars come with the Sync 3 infotainment and three new colours - Grabber Blue, Lightning Blue and White Platinum. Given the Mustang still seems to be coveted, it could make it to the end of 2016 as the UK's most popular sports coupe. Which would be quite something. Finally, if you do want one but can't wait, there are already a few cropping up in the PH classifieds. Blue looks good...

People who go to car shows don't always know about cars, most I would say don't from the dull questions they ask.
After 11 years owning a Mustang, no-one has ever said "It's only a Ford"...not once.
Guess it's you then.
Have you sat in them and felt the plastic ? And how wide are they ??!!

Depends on your definition of 'brief'...!!

Available with a 4 cyl engine through both 2nd generation and 3rd generation between 1974 and 1993, so almost 20 years, is hardly what I'd call brief period!!
Yeah but 'since 74'implies it was available from then to now. And did it really live to 93 ?
