We've all got one surely, a local resident that has a great car you'd definitely be proud to own. Maybe you know them, maybe you don't. I quite like the odd mysterious car that appears several times a week driving past, but whose residence is totally unknown. Leaves a bit of mystery in this day and age of everyone showing off their cars online.

So, who's got a neighbour or local with a car that for some reason you particularly like... and have you ever spoken to them?

I'll start: There's a guy who either lives in the village, or nearby, with an E39 M5. It's got very fruity pipes and I live about 200 yards away from where the 30 become NSL. Every time he hits it you can hear him enjoying it for about half a mile, until the next 30. Sounds superb. Never seen it parked anywhere.

I have to say I don't admire the people with low self-esteem thinking that everyone enjoys their noise.

Your neighbour obviously wants a section 59 notice and for his MOT garage to get in trouble with DVSA
FWIW, where the 30 limit becomes NSL, the houses in the village also stop. Given that I don't hear him for more than 10-15 seconds AT MOST I would say he's considerably less of a nuisance than one of the households around here who take to playing extremely loud drum and bass at 11pm.

Also, my current vehicle is totally street-legal and EU approved but way too noisy to get on most track days. Go figure. :-S

What about Londoners seeking a ban on hard acceleration due to the problems with Arabs every summer?
Gent enjoying his car on a NSL section of countryside =/= Idiot giving 700bhp hypercar full throttle in a crowded city street

I'm reasonably certain the general PH consensus is that the latter behaviour is not good for anyone.

But you've made your point, others have decided whether they agree, the intent of the thread is simply asking what cars in their vicinity people enjoy WHATEVER the reason... so if you don't mind keeping comments on topic? I'm asking nicely and all that

So, oilspill, given you're a member of Pistonheads... you MUST have something to add to the list. There MUST be some car you see on a regular basis, that if it pulled up next to you in a car park you know you'd have to strike up a conversation with the owner. It can be completely standard and STILL be very desirable, there's often a lot to be said for totally un-modified cars, especially of the classic variety

I work in Switzerland and I see a lot of guys coming down from Norway and Holland to a hotel I stay in with Tesla model S's. I've tried one and they go and feel like fking spaceships. I kept my mouth shut as it quickly became apparent the thread was to admire perceived power' or exotic looks, Tesla's have neither. I also like the idea of pissing all over vastly more expensive cars in stealthy way.
A Tesla is very cool. I see them everywhere in London and larger cities, but in the little country villages I actually reside in they would be classed as very rare.

Pistonheads, when done properly, is an acceptance of a large amount of motoring pleasure. I don't see why the fact I enjoy the sound of a V8 at full chat somehow means I'm not allowed to also appreciate the 1939 Topolino owned by a fellow who lives about a mile away from me.

Going back about 10 years or so ago a guy who lived just up the road from me would regularly drive past my house in an orange Murcielago.

I suspect he used to be a writer for Evo magazine or at least a contributor with a regular column. I seem to remember something about him driving down to Italy in the old orange car to pick a new white LP640 with the orange one being demoted to doing experience days etc.

Any old readers remember anything along those lines?
If memory serves it got a quarter of a million miles on it, then the engine block cracked. He decided to get it rebuilt, spent a fortune, then on its first day out some git put it straight into a tree. Heartbreaking.

It did get rebuilt but I don't know what eventually happened to it?
