We are generally well-served with car threads on PH, with Bargain Basement at Shed budget, Retro 0-5, Barge 1-5, Barge 5-20, and the OT/Anything Goes threads, but the sweet spot of 5-10 seems to me to be a gap. The latter two threads tend to the upper ends of the price spectrum, and 5-20 is in any case too wide a budget, which perhaps accounts for its unloved feel.

As a consequence, I wonder if there's a gap in the market for a 5-10 budget for interesting cars? The entry criteria are deliberately vague to encourage diversity - it's a broad church after all - but I've shown a few examples to start this thing off which reflect my personal preference for petrol autos.

What else out there do you like?

Dodgy colour match, but pop-up lights and timeless style. £6750.

Feeling brave? BMW 3-series or Maserati? £7950.

Looks virtually new. £9450.

Or this wonderful old thing? £6750.

The Maserati certainly has an appeal.

I think the S500 is pricey, but what presence!

Of course. Don't be swayed by my prejudice.

A Q plate probably shouldn't deter one. But it does.

Anyone know much about these? This one is at the top of the price range but it's a very late example, a 4.2 rather than a 4.0, and low mileage. I like the colour too. The shape has grown on me over the years.

Those look really nice don't they? Got to be sure-fire future classics.

This is a useful supplementary thread.
That's what I hope it is. I'm a 1-5 barge man, but the reality of most of my purchases is that they're in the 5-10 bracket.

I certainly don't want barge-thread-fratricide. Hopefully there is scope for all.

Cool. Not cheap at £8995.

Even cooler. At £10,500, will have to be haggled.

Reference to cosmetic repair and benefitting from restoration sound alarm bells, but values are only going one way. Possibly.

Is posting your own barge that might be for sale frowned upon in the way it was in the 1-5k thread?

I haven't quite got around to marketing it, but it's bang in the middle of thread budget, V8 and aluminium...
Give us more of a clue.

Only reason I'm selling is because I follow these barge threads religiously and want to tick some more off the list.
Note the other barge/shed S124 I've got for sale is a result of watching the 1-5k smoker barge thread.
You're doing it wrong old boy. The philosophy is to buy lots of old barges, not to actually sell any. Instant classic collection, innit!

Had a 420G as one of our wedding cars - nowhere near as nicely proportioned as the Mk2 in my eyes, but that looks a really decent example as a basis for a colour change/refresh.
I love it too, but the colour would have to stay - that's the best bit about it.

What do we mean by 'not quick'? I suspect lots of cars that are usefully fast in any sort of normal use could be called 'not quick'.

Another nice SEC. £6750. Lots of good signs in the ad too, including long ownership.
