RM Auctions 'Duemila Ruote' auction preview

More than 430 cars, 150 bikes, 60 boats and much more going to auction, all without reserve...

Now this promises to be a special one, even by RM's standards. The Duemila Ruote (2,000 wheels) auction was first confirmed around the London sale, and with the auction now a couple of weeks off, it's worth going into some more detail. Because not only is it an incredible collection of cars (and more), every single lot in the sale is without a reserve.

It's a private collection that also includes 150 bikes, 60 boats and 140 bicycles; we'll focus on the cars here, but the full lot list it worth a look if you're intrigued. And have a lot of time.

Italian cars dominate, with particular highlights including a works Delta Integrale rally car, a Maserati MC12, an early (alloy-bodied) Ferrari 275 GTB/6C and a manual 599. But that's just the start, with a selection of Lancia Fulvias, a Fiat Dino, a Maserati Kyalami and a smorgasbord of Alfa Romeos also to be sold, including three racing 75s.

In fact motorsport is a strong running theme in the Duemila auction. There are Escorts and Sierras, a rally-spec Porsche Cayman, a March 90C Indianapolis, a Group 4 Abarth 131 and a Mustang Notchback racer just for starters. Seriously, if Monday is getting to you already, this is the place to look.

RM has identified 60 different 911s (including some very nice RS and GT variants) on top of 21 Jaguar E-Types in addition. The auction has been described as an "Aladdin's Cave", which rather seems to sell the lot list short!

With so many cars being sold, the catalogue descriptions are either brief or missing at the moment (but in for the PH ads!) and the estimates are comically low; expect both to be addressed over the coming days. Until then there are plenty of pictures to ogle and lotto garages to plan!
