Boxster vs. Z3 vs. SLK: Time for Coffee?

Small Porsche versus BMW and Merc tests have been going for 20 years now; here's one of the first!

Isn't it funny how accepted opinions become entrenched in motoring folklore? An opinion is suggested, it gains traction, and then that becomes the go-to judgement on that car forever more. Or so it seems.

Which is why it's nice to revisit contemporary tests of cars to see exactly what the score was back then. This US triple test between the Boxster, SLK and Z3 - as well as featuring some top slacks - is great for discovering just what was made of the three back in the 90s, before the stereotypes set in.

Alright, so you can probably guess the finishing order, but there's no wooden spoon here. All of the cars are found to have their respective qualities, all are apparently enjoyed by the testers and all spring the odd surprise too. Wait until you hear the SLK's 0-60 time, for example, or see the BMW's interior...

So as well as being a glorious nostalgia fest, a video crammed with 90s graphics and very 90s clothes, it's an interesting watch to rediscover just what was made of these three when they were new. Wonder what this triple test will look like in 2037?
