I have a fairly lengthy daily commute from Stratford on Avon to West Bromwich. It generally takes just under one hour, but can be somewhat variable due to regular traffic congestion over 6 miles from J4 northwards (it moves, albeit slowly).

In April they are going to start roadworks between J2 and J1 which is going to restrict the motorway to ONE LANEmad in each direction for 18 months!!!!

The impact of this doesn't bear thinking about. I foresee gridlock in the area, probably all day never mind for a couple of hours either side of rush hour.

I'm at a loss about what to do, I could try to take the train but that means a daily cost of around £35 on tickets/parking and I'd need to buy another car to leave at work (since I need to go out from the office regularly to visit clients). Plus the door to door time is going to be considerable.......I'll have no home life.......

Maybe a motorbike (I have a full test) but I don't relish the thought of filtering through all that traffic - I can foresee frustrated motorists taking exception to that and being awkward / dangerous to motorcyclists.

It was a different Express and Star article - information on that online article seems to have changed since I last read it

If they keep 3 lanes open it may not be as catastrophic as I am imagining.
