I am sick and tired of people outside our house going excessively fast. We live on a sort of main road through an estate which is a 30moh. Certain people ie chavs, mumsnet types in Audi suv's, business guys in white bmw's seem to treat the road almost like a racetrack. At the weekend the nice cars come out to play then we have several absolute dicks going at least 50 -60 passing out drive in a 30 zone. Yesterday I spotted the community speedwatch guys and stopped and spoke to them and suggested our road. They said yes they plan to do that next and they are always looking for volunteers.

Now I know it makes little difference as they have no powers etc but it might maybe slow some down if they were around more often. I do like to drive quickly and make progress where possible etc but never in 30 redisdential areas where there are people's drives and pedestrians etc so would I have to hand in my ph card and not look on the forum again if I joined them, also I'm not sure if it's full of hi vis wearing bearded lecturers who only ever go 28mph at best. I don't mind going quickly but only when appropriate

Thoughts please ?

And I'm not exaggerating about the 60, traffic lights at the bottom of the road and a straight ish 1/2 mile to a roundabout, side roads and people drives all over the place, kids on bikes as well. Bloody crazy the speed some go at

For reference they are drives on the right, a side road on the left and further side roads and drives all the way along for around 1/2 mile to a roundabout

This.

Ages ago the wife of the man I was working for at the time complained about the speed of traffic going past her house. The police duly appeared and did a speed check. They also gave her 3 points for speeding.

be careful what you wish for.
You are completely wrong, you will never catch me over the limit in residential areas, you might get me at 80 on a motorway and over 60 on a nsl road when well sighted though

I live on a village high street. I put it to you that just about everyone speeding past my house (not that I care) is a villager.

It's very likely you will be speeding past somebodies house, given that if 30 is the maximum speed you can do 30.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 is speeding.
,

30.00000000000000000000000000001 isn't a problem really is it, it's the "excessive speed"

We similarly live on a 30mph which is a cut through to avoid going through a village so people do tend to go quick. A lot of our neighbours park on the road when we all have ample parking for 2 or more cars each it slows everyone down nicely. Simply do this and get your neighbours to. Use your cars as traffic calming obstacles.
Hmmmmm no thanks. I will keep my car on the drive to avoid some crashing into it

Don't talk like a fool, I have been driving for over 30 years and I know what 30 looks like. If you don't then you shouldn't be driving

Balls do you.

I have had people coming standing in their gardens shaking their fists at me in a 30 limit for going "too fast" and shouting "SLOW DOWN". Do you know what I was driving? A farm tractor, top speed, 26.2mph. Admittedly, there were a lot of us using that road, but we were still the slowest vehicles on the road. Happened to me again a couple of years ago, this time by someone who's house is on the top of a hill.

That picture of the road looks like it should be a 40 limit and one that isn't too rigidly enforced.

For the record, I walk to the shops, run up to 30 miles a week and cycle to work on top of driving all sorts.

And while I'm on, there are no "rat runs", but there are people using public roads that they are entitled to use.
Whats you running got to do with anything ?

OP why not contact the local council and ask about getting some speed humps put on the road?
We did........
Cost is a factor, unless there has been a serious incident they won't even look at it

I run on the pavement and am thus, vulnerable to attack for speeding drivers. The speed of the traffic has bugger all effect on me as a pedestrian. I once ran over to plod doing a speed check, to explain to him that the speed of passing traffic didn't effect me in the slightest. As a cyclist, anecdotally, the people getting a wiggle on tent to give me more room than the "safe" drivers that drive past me slowly, but just about take the skin off my elbows.
Sorry but you sound like a fruit loop
