Lambo Takes On Jet

Reventón races Tornado in Italy

In case anyone had missed the aircraft influences on the Lamborghini Reventón, the Italian firm rammed the point home by pitching the car against a jet fighter.

The pilot of a Tornado aircraft [A200-A] and a Lamborghini test driver challenged each other to a race on a 3000 metre long runway at the Ghedi (Brescia) military airport.

The idea was to showcase the car in front of a host of international TV networks, and also remind those who might have been asleep for the past month or so that the Reventón has ‘aeronautic styling’.

The car was designed by the Centro Stile Lamborghini and draws inspiration from modern fighter jets.

The Lambo did take the lead early on but the Tornado caught up in the last few metres, taking off and flying over the Reventón that was going at a speed of over 340 km/h (211 mph).

There are only 20 Reventón cars available, each with a price tag of 1 million euros plus taxes.

All are already sold and will be built and delivered in 2008.

Meanwhile the Reventón has also won the ‘Most Beautiful Automobile in the World 2007’ award this month in the special models category, of the award ‘L’Automobile più Bella del Mondo’ (The Word’s most Beautiful Automobile).

The decision was announced by an international panel chaired by Italian visual arts critic Bruno Alfieri.

Members of the panel were well-known international representatives of the automotive and design industries.

Pity it wasn't against the F-22 Raptor that inspired it. I assmume the Italians don't have any. The Americans probably refuse to supply them given their slightly confused allegiances of the past.
