Is there a reason people seem to like the 306 D Turbo, but not the HDI?

A diesel 306 has found its way onto my shortlist of potential daily drivers when I change cars. But I've noticed that while the D Turbo is lauded as a daily runabout, I've never seen the more powerful HDI mentioned. Is there a reason for this?

I think it is the easily available "free" power of the Dturbo that makes them the one to go for. I certainly enjoyed mine and kind of yearn for another one.
Would you not run the risk of destroying anything? And how much more power do you actually get, considering the HDI is already 15bhp better off?

It looks like the HDi is listed as doing 54mpg while the earlier D Turbo is listed at 42 and 46mpg. Is the earlier D Turbo deffo the better car?? And is it the only one you can easily up the power on and run on veg oil??

Also got a 307 HDi, I much prefer the D-Turbo for power and usability, the HDi is just dull, everywhere.
The HDi would be dulled by the massive weight of the 307 though! I just need to find out a few important stats, such as standard engine power and MPG now as I have seen some conflicting stuff.
