I've been to look at a car at an extremeley good price.

However, the owner has lost the documents due to moving house.

This set alarm bells ringing, so i had it HPi checked and it was all fine. It just had 7 previous owners.

It has 10 months of tax and the owner assures me it has MOT, but without the logbook or MOT certificate i can't be sure.

So how can i find out how long the MOT is for, or if it actually has it? I looked on the DVLA website, but they require a reference number from the logbook to allow them to send me another certificate.

Ask the seller where it was MOT.ed and call the garage direct. Personally I'd never buy a car without the V5 though.
The seller didn't MOT it, so he doesn't know where it was done. He just had the certificate then lost it.

He hasnt had it long and he's selling due to no longer being able to afford to run it.

Its at the sort of price, where i would buy it even without MOT. It would just be useful to know if it did, for a legal reason to know wheter i could drive it back.
