you're thinking about a rally weapon aren;t you?!
yes was looking at Version 1-6 Imprezas or even a Version 7 have looked at loads of bdised and chaved up ones on Autotrader and tbh it has pretty much put me off ...
...in a "I don't want to be a part of that" kind of way
to top it off, on Sunday was out for a bit of a run in my T5 and came across a Version 7 Impreza, it was Blue with bright yellow 555 and Subaru rally stickers all over it and bright Yellow extended mudflaps...I just thought "what a COCK"

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest. or would you look elsewhere?
ETA: However having to put up with the attention associated with is, is definitely something that I would take into account.

it is the opposite with my current car
you just pass by without anyone really batting an eyelid, people let you out of junctions and move-over on the motorway, it doesn't draw any unwanted attention when parked up or when driven at a fair rate of knots for that matter

How was it being driven (or was it similarly parked)?
as are most the Imprezas I've seen on the road come to mention it

If you're thinking of a rally weapon but want something a bit different that doesn't seem to attract such a "chavvy" reputation, why not take a look at a Celica GT-Four? The later model, the ST205, is shockingly cheap to buy now and as long as all of the main failure points have been sorted they're a good buy and should go for a long time to come.
Mine hasn't been modified much, the last person to own it in Japan fitted a performance exhaust to it which is louder than some but not overly loud (only 87db static) and it's enormous fun to drive. None of the "chav brigade" really seem to know what it is either which is a bonus, and I hardly ever see another one around so rarity is a factor.
I'm not necessarily after a "rally weapon" just a AWD car that goes well Mine hasn't been modified much, the last person to own it in Japan fitted a performance exhaust to it which is louder than some but not overly loud (only 87db static) and it's enormous fun to drive. have been looking out for Celica GT-Fours but the old ones (not round headlight) are pretty few and far between

I think I'd rather have a Legacy, Mazda MP6 or even CX-7.
S60R is favourite tbh I love my current car but really need AWD
The "brand" has always been very good to me and I love the understated image and fairly brisk Turbo 5cyl engine (esp after a MTE re-map)

I haven't yet, with 8 out of 10 of mine being associated with chavs of some description. The biggest drawback imo is when you come to sell your P&J, with the rudest, most arrogant and just downright cheeky scum calling you at all times of day & night. Selling my Porsche was an absolute pleasure, everyone had manners, decorum & social etiquette, it was 100% opposite of my experience selling the Supra which was a deeply unpleasant experience, which had tainted my private sale experience so badly I was vomiting with anxiety waiting for the first viewer for the 944 (I needn't have worried, he was an absolute gentleman).or would you look elsewhere?
They are harder to price too, if an ASBO orange Supra 3.0 with a mismatched bodykit, 19 inch chromes, a broken gearbox and a half finished turbo conversion of unknown origin and had also been in two large smacks but sells within a day of the advert going live for £3500 you'd think a clean straight & cherished TT with immaculate bodywork, interior and mechanicals would have sold on the first phonecall at £5k. Though I've picked out two specific examples the trend was for battered barrywagons to sell quicker and for almost the same money as several cherished examples. Dodgy mods & neglect didn't seem to matter to these people (well, until they realise they need to spend thousands to fix them up).

I bought my scooby and was laughed at by my neighbours. They actually said and I kid you not that I was lowering the tone of the neighbour hood! Couldn't care less to be honest, a car is a car at the end of the day and it can not be held responsible for those that own it.
any pics? EDLT said:
One thing that puts me off Evos/Imprezas is that they are popular with tea-leafs.
It is not just tea-leafs.....have a look at some of the adverts for a while
What sort of person calls a car a "Scooby-doo" or "Subaru-Doo" (yes really) or even "Scooby" in the advert title...you then go on to read the advert, it generally says "I luv my scooby it iz da sh-t and well wikkid fast with skidz sellin coz I run out ov dollar and me bh iz up da duff"
....next!!!!!

Most cars (completely stock) are fine. If it came with any of the following, I wouldn't buy it.
LED washer jets
Loud exhaust
Wheels that are more than 4" bigger than stock
Any form of vinyl stickers
Aftermarket bodykit / spoiler
Those are all fairly bad signs - the car will look stupid and most likely be thrashed.
Not sure I follow that. My car has a loud exhaust and a front rally like spoiler and wheels substantially bigger than stock. But I can't see how it's chavy at all. LED washer jets

the Lotus Cortina has given me a hard-on
I have spent many a day watching them sideways around most the circuits in the UK usually with a classic yank muscle car bullying them on the straights only for them to pass again on each corner with a front wheel off the deck and sideways
ditto the Mk1 Mexico
yeah I see what you are saying, the Version 7 Impreza wagon looks pretty Ordinary

there are thousands of alternatives to the 2 rally reps that are as much fun to drive, better equipped, more comfortable, cheaper to buy, insure and fuel and better screwed together.
Like what?must have more than 200bhp as standard
must be reliable
I'm all ears

R32? I mean, they're as dull as blankets and driving one feels akin to gently sliding into a coma but it fits the criteria.must have more than 200bhp as standard

The criteria included 'as much fun to drive' as a rally-rep. And cheaper to buy as well as better screwed together, which given the mixed reports you hear about VW these days days probably isn't a given.
I can have fun in pretty much anything
S60R is what I'm looking for right now, I love my turbo Volvos
GravelBen said:
What I've heard about the S60R is that its fast enough and competent enough, but certainly not a car described in any way as 'involving'.
Personally if you want something with rally-rep performance and handling, but more comfort and a more grown-up/subtle feel then I'd suggest taking a good look at a Legacy - either the 280bhp GTB (would be an import for you) or the 240bhp 3.0R Spec B.
thanks for the suggestion (a guy along from me has a new'ish diesel legacy, very nice inside, very comfy)Personally if you want something with rally-rep performance and handling, but more comfort and a more grown-up/subtle feel then I'd suggest taking a good look at a Legacy - either the 280bhp GTB (would be an import for you) or the 240bhp 3.0R Spec B.
see above..I don't care about trackday handling
I can hustle my 850 T5 along fairly well

I'm talking about road handling, for trackdays I use the MX5!If Volvos are your thing (like Subarus for me ) then fair play to you and have fun, but I'd still suggest at least driving a Legacy for the sake of comparison.
