New Skoda Octavia vRS 2.0 TDI CR - should I buy one?
Discussion
Sorry, I know this comes on the heels of another vRS thread, but this is a different car.
Thinking seriously about buying one the these brand new. Some fantastic offers at the moment (no VAT + more discount). I drove one last week, it was very good, and that is coming from a Mercedes/BMW driver, oh, and I am not a badge snob!. I am seriously tempted as I need a reliable, economical, comfortable, sporty car for my needs over the next two years. The car seems to be high quality on the build front and looks fantastic in vRS trim, the engine is very willing and the kit is pretty good. Can't think of anything else that represents such decent value - £16K with discounts. Thoughts? I love them in white!

There are some standard cars available now in the UK, I was offered a standard Candy White TDi vRS, with no options for almost immediate delivery - 20% discount. If I buy it will a factory order, with options, Delivery in about 8-12 weeks still with 20% discount. Have been emailing loads of dealers directly with what I want. The one who will get my business is 125 miles from me and gets a good review on Briskoda.net.
Would consider the petrol but fuel economy is important to me.

Making up my mind tomorrow, so will place an order over the phone if I decide to proceed. It will be a vRS TD CR in Candy White with Maxidot, rain sensor/auto wipers, rear park assist, full size spare wheel and Mobile Device Interface - total price is £16700 with the options. There is also a subsidised finance rate at 7.6% APR on a PCP, all in all very affordable and it holds its value well too - thanks to the generous discounts!
As has been said, there is nothing out there that equals it for value for money for a decent, reliable, good looking new car.

£550 to supply and fit the touchscreen 'Colombus' satnav which costs £1500 from Skoda. I'd get this even if its just for the built in hard drive capability.
Useful link that thanks, although I am not a fan of OEM Satnavs. The standard Bolero headunit has a SD card cabaility and with the iPod connectivity that I am having as an option, that's probably all I need to be honest.£550 to supply and fit the touchscreen 'Colombus' satnav which costs £1500 from Skoda. As an aside I was out in the Merc GL yesterday and prefered to use Orange Maps on my phone (full postcode facility) rather than the COMAND in the Merc which doesn't have it. I would rather buy an decent Garmin/Tom Tom than pay OEM prices for satnavs.
Octavia ordered this afternoon!
Got an even cheaper price than I thought possible, through a Skoda Armed Forces discount scheme! Car ordered:
Skoda Octavia 5DR 2.0 CR TDI vRS Hatchback
Candy White
Options:
Maxidot
MDI
Rear Park Assist
Spare Wheel
Total price was £16195 with the options and also accessed a cheap PCP promotion. Cheaper than DrivetheDeal by £300 and the cheapest anywhere I could find!
Should hopefully be a relatively inexpensive few years of motoring! Factory order time is 8-12 weeks.

I did pontficate/cogitate/consider/ponder the purchase of a used machine like a Golf GT/GTi, BMW 330cd, AUDI A3 etc etc. I came to the conclusion that for peace of mind motoring and predictability of running costs that buying the vRS new made a lot of sense. Three years warranty, hugely discounted purchase price, decent resale, good finance package and the fact that is a very good car swung it for me. It may cost more overall but hopefully it is worth it.

Thats really good. I never knew Skoda had an armed forces scheme as I will be eligible for that. I know Ford do big discounts, like an ST3 new for £16995 but I dont fancy them much.
I may look into it again later in the year when I need a car. Its the Falklands for me tommorrow
I found the discount via forcescarsdirect.com Very helpful and they access the discount via a network of dealers. Mine will be delivered through Hortons Skoda in Lincoln. The irony is that I asked them for a quote last week and they couldn't touch the best one I had up until then, There was a bit of conjecture about whether you could combine the generous discounts with the subsidised PCP finance, found out today via forcescarsdirect that you could.I may look into it again later in the year when I need a car. I had an ST3 on the Ford Military discount scheme three years ago, I actually made money on that car! Enjoy the Falklands! I have done my time down there - 1990, 1994/5 and 2006!
My vRS CR should be built next month and hopefully I will see it in early May!
I was at my local dealer on Saturday, as we're shopping for either a Superb Estate or an Octavia Estate.
As the Superb estate is so new there are no real deals to be had yet, but the Octavia is a different matter.
The current deal is VAT free + either 2k off petrol or 2.5k off diesels, and can be combined with finance.
I make it that a 2.0T vRS at a list of £19904 could be had for £14420. (£19904*0.825) - £2000 = £14420
As this seems like such a good deal, I'm tempted to drop the idea of the superb and get an Octavia instead. Please tell me where you get the vRS for the VAT free price and then a further £2.5K off. I think that is simply not possible on a new order. I got mine for £16195 (Diesel vRS hatchback in solid white, rear sensors, maxidot, MDI and full size spare wheel. That was with an Armed Forces discount of about 20% in total combined with the finance offers.

So I'm thinking 2.0TFSi DSG Hatch, MSFW+BT, leather, heated seats, maxidot, light asst, MDI, rear parking sensor. Colour Corrida red. Still only £18-odd K.
Has anyone successfully managed to get the DTD price AND the Skoda current low rate finance deal? It says on DTD FAQ that mfr finance deals are generally available through them, but it is a bit vague. Oh and are the finance deals only until end March? Apparently the zero-rate finance deals is for 50% dep and over 2 years, not sure I can quite manage that one, but the 4% low rate sounds like a goer.

basically the £2/2.5k offer is only realisable if you turn up with a PX you somehow acquired for free...
from what it sounds like it can't be used at the same time as the VAT free deal, and certainly wasn't mentioned by the salesman i spoke to today.
Incidentally, the monthly payments came out a lot cheaper than DTD, even though the headline price was more. I plan to order the car through DTD and then use Skoda finance to get a lower rate. It's PCP so I can't get the ultra-low rate, but its still lower than DTDs finance example that uses something like 10.6% APR. Possibly residuals are slightly higher too which brings the payment down.
I see! I am financing on the 7.9% PCP rate, it is pretty competitive I think and the monthly payments are very reasonable. There should even be some equity at the end, unlike my Mercedes which was handed back at the end of the contract. I managed to save about £400 or so over the DtD price (with no px).from what it sounds like it can't be used at the same time as the VAT free deal, and certainly wasn't mentioned by the salesman i spoke to today.

As I said in previous post, it was a mistake by the salesman, the deals can't be combined.Your deal seems to be as good as is possible at the moment.

I popped into my local dealer this week to enquire. He said that the DPF on the diesel clogs up if the car is used mainly for short runs.. and is expesive to replace..
Is this bs so he can push petrol cars to make a bigger margin, or some genuine advice?
I will be using mine for a 10 miles commute to work mainly but with a once a week 40 miles fast road/motorway blast plus the odd 250 motorway trip. I wonder what they would define as a short run? My car will be covered by the warranty, so that's piece of mind.Is this bs so he can push petrol cars to make a bigger margin, or some genuine advice?
