After all these years of entering competitions online I finally won something!

This is not a [Censored] take! I really did win the Best Of The Best Sportscar Competition so I'll be waving goodbye to Lotus ownership soon and giving a Porsche a go for a while.

Strange really as back when I joined Pistonheads I had an old 944 2.7 and since that have had a variety of different cars. I had been considering maybe going back to a Porsche or something else a little more 'day to day' than my current Elise and this has given me a damn good way to do it smile It'll also mean I'll be back on Pistonheads a lot more as I don't know of a better resource for Porsche related chat.

BTW Will and the team at Best Of The Best have given me a couple of discount codes but I'll wait til PH have given me the all clear to post them here as I don't want to get myself or BOTB into any trouble.

Yay Me!

Nice to see you're still around wavey
I was talking about you the other day, I was going to drop you a line but 'this' came up and has kind of distracted me!

We were discussing Stag Do's in the office and I told them how I took you along to look after me for the evening smile

I've been upto a few things in the past few years including the arrival of a little boy called Alex smile

Life was already super cool, now it's reached an whole new level!

Congratulations!

If it wasn't for a total lack of 'spot the ball'/football knowledge I could get dangerously addicted to those.
I know nothing about Football. My wife has to explain the offside rule to me... I just looked at the eyes of the players etc and clicked a few times! biggrin

The voucher code I got through the email encouraged me to do it smile

I saw a BOTB stand in Heathrow the other day with an R8 and a Tesla on show, I thought about it. But was a bit skeptical about weather or not it was just a scam.. I guess it's not really.

What happens when you win, do you get to pick the car? Or did you enter a competition for the Porsche?

Alun you lucky fker! Whats the spec?

Ed
Baically you can take a base spec car and add cash to it to get the spec you want. BOTB have been pretty cool and let me have a look at Ex Demo's around that figure as my wife was made redundant earlier this year and the Elise was possibly going to have to go as our day to day Mini Cooper S is getting a bit long in the tooth.

Currently looking at an ex demo PDK model with a few toys smile

Personally I would be putting up for sale and buying a Saggy smile
I'm going to keep her for a while and see what happens. I never expected to be able to buy a £40k car so I'm going to savor this for a while. Next year will see a whole new choice of cars available to me!

I've seen them a few times but have always been put off with having to "guess" where the ball is as opposed to having a 1:whatever chance of winning.

Sweet prize and enjoy.
Yeah, the spot the ball thing bothered me a bit as I know nothing about Football!

The way it works is a FIFA referee comes in to the offices and picks the spot where they think it is so it's as much an assumed guess as you make really, maybe a bit more informed but not that different.

Brilliant, well done!
Only seen a stand once when I was at Heathrow, wanted a do but couldn't afford.
What are the rules regarding you selling it? Could you sell it straight away and pocket the cash or do you have to keep it a set amount of time?
I can sell it immediately if I want to. I'm going to enjoy owning a Porsche for a while before I give selling it any thought.

Well I'm sitting in the departure lounge at Heathrow at the moment. I was happily resisting the temptation of the white R8 on the BOTB stand, but then I saw this thread and now I'm £20 down...

The power of Porsche envy...

Congratulations OP - brilliant!
Cheers! (Must talk to Will at BOTB about commission wink )

Generally a bit crappy at the moment but starting to look up a bit. I still read SELOC and can only imagine how pleased they'll be that you're switching to a Porsche wink
I think it holds the record for the highest density of non Lotus owners for an online forum related to Lotus...

Well done that man. As someone who regularly drops a wad with these guys I have to say I am happy for you.

Can I ask a quick couple of questions? Why did you not go for the more exotic offerings they tend to have like the Ferrari's or Lambo's etc or did the Porker come with an additional cash lump sum?

Also do they still cover you for up to £6K on the first year’s insurance?
This is the Sportscar competition so a cayman/boxster/Exige is top budget.

They still cover 6k on the supercars but nothing on the sportscar competition.

Have to say I've been really overwhelmed with how nice people have been about my good fortune. I honestly expected one or two trolls to come along and put a dampener on things but I've been totally disproved and I'm really glad to say that.

On here, Seloc, Facebook and Twitter all I've had is really positive messages and I just wanted to say thank you to all of you!

More car news in the next day or so. I've chosen a car but I'm waiting for confirmation from the dealer...

Congrats, awesome prize biggrin

How do you go about choosing the spec? Do you get a budget?
You win a 'base spec' model of any of the cars listed on the site. You can then put cash towards options.

I've chosen a VAT qualifying ex management car from Porsche which BOTB are contributing the base cost of a cayman towards. More details tomorrow smile

I'm really pleased for you. Good to see a PH win a good car like that. Normally when I see the winner of that sort of competition, or even something more mundane like the 5th gear 2nd hand car ones, there's always the feeling that it's a performance car wasted. They'll trundle around at 20mph showing of. Hopefully you'll drive it more as intended!
I've already booked a day of training in it wink then maybe a trackday in September.

Congrat Alun, you're the first I've heard of winning such a competition. Have you considered selling it and getting a new Exige or a tuned S1 Exige? That would probably what I would do if I won.
I've owned 6 Elise derivatives. I wouldn't swap this for one until I've owned it for a while and made my own mind up.

Most Elises do little for me these days I'm afraid especially as I need them to be both everyday and track usage. S1 Exige is lovely but day to day would be a ballache.
